This book was a cute book about giving. It was also a good book for a kids religion class. This story has some good life lessons. Brother Juniper was too nice to have anything for himself and although he is left with nothing physically, he ends with a bunch of thank yous and everyone joining him creating the best place of all. A place that feels like home with new friends and new family. The setting is set back to times which look like before christ because of the clothing. ( )

I enjoyed this book! I laughed while reading this to my students and they laughed too! We thought it was hilarious! Brother Juniper shows us that kindness and helping others is of the upmost importance. When we help others, we reap the benefits later. He also reminds us that a church is not a building. It's where people are gathered to praise God; the building is irrelevant. ( )

Wow! This book really defines what "the church" is, in a simple story. The meaning of this book was to show that the church isn't the building, it's the body of people! Church can happen anywhere, it is not the temple. God calls us the church, not the building. Another meaning to the book was the generosity Juniper had. More people showed up than ever because of what he did. When we reflect Jesus' character, more people come to know him. Words aren't enough, the building isn't enough, it's our actions. 1 Peter 3:1 "Your godly lives will speak to them without any words." Really great book. ( )

Brother Juniper is a very generous person that he would offer someone his robe if they were cold. One day, the brothers leave Brother Juniper alone at the church when there's a knock on the door from a blind man. He gives the man something to pay for a pair of glasses. There are several more knocks and when the brothers come back the church is gone. Brother Juniper is a book that teaches people that a church isn't a building but a congregation of faithful people. I would probably use this book to create a discussion about generosity and ask students if they can recall a time when they were generous to someone. ( )

This charming picture book tells the story of one of the friars in St Francis of Assisi's order. When the other brothers go out to preach, leaving Brother Juniper to watch over the chapel, he is so generous that they come back to find that he has given away EVERYTHING-- including the chapel doors and walls. They are angry at first, but come to realize how his actions have blessed the various recipients and, by extension, the entire congregation in their little village. The muted palette of the watercolor illustrations ties in well with the text, which is humorous and never didactic. A lovely story of generosity. ( )
