I really did enjoy this book because it shows that little fights are not a big deal and can be easily resolved. I really like how this book can also apply to other children and their friendships. My favorite part of the book was when it said "NOT the end" on the last page of the book. This shows that their friendship was not over. ( )

I thought this was a very engaging book to read for two reasons. The first reason I enjoyed reading this book is because of the fun yet audience-appropriate language used throughout the story. For example, some phrases the author uses are, “Weddy teddy,” “He’s a’fraidy,” and “Bellies and buttons.” Having these silly words weaved into the story give it lightheartedness and a sense of humor. Not only would children find reading these words amusing, but I also found it amusing when I read the text. In addition, the author uses some simple sentences interlaced with more complex sentences like, “Best friends” and “They belong together.” These short sentences are audience appropriate, meaning they don’t overwhelmingly challenge the reader, and they also get their message across effectively. Another reason I liked this book is due to the relatable plot, which is about best friends named Ruby and Henry (a girl and a boy) who don’t always get along perfectly. The book talks about the fun times they have with their imagination playing pirates and circus, but it also talks about how Ruby gets jealous of Henry for being able to float in the pool and how Henry gets mad at Ruby for spilling a secret. It helps the reader see that even the best of friends can experience small tiffs, but they are still friends no matter what. The big idea of this story is exactly that: It is okay to experience small arguments with your friend, because at the end of the day, you are still best friends and have fun together. ( )

Lively, vibrant story about the nature of friendship. Good book to discuss with a class or small group. ( )

Genre: Realistic Fiction

Style: 4 Stars

Review: Henry and Ruby are best friends. They play together all the time. Even though sometimes they may not be the best of friends, they are always friends. This book is a good example of realistic fiction because the setting, characters, and events seem very real.

About the trials and tribulations of friendship. About two friends who are boy and girl and are best friends. They go through ups and downs in their friendship but always go back to being friends. ( )
