I had problems with the blue=boy, pink=girl gendering of the book. I appreciate that the author disrupts that in the end, but it didn't completely work for me. ( )

Genre: Realistic Fantasy
Review: The author stayed true to the genre of realistic fiction by creating a believable story with contemporary places, people, and situations. In this book a little girl loves pink more than anything else, until her baby brother is born, then she discovers she loves her little brother even more than pink.
Character: Penny is a round dynamic character because the whole beginning of the book is devoted to telling us all about her and the things she loves. It also talks about how she loves nothing else besides pink. She changes that thought after her baby brother is born and she discovers that she can love her brother even more than the color pink.

Penny loves pink. But she’s worried when she thinks about her new baby brother because she knows that boys are blue. She’s tickled pink to learn that her new baby brother is a lovely shade of pink.
