A Fool Again is the story of Genevieve, who once made a dash to Gretna Greene to marry, but was caught by her father. Now, a few years later, she attends the funeral of her elderly husband (not the man she ran away to marry) and who does she see but The One Who Got Away! 3.5 rounded up. A cute little story. ( )

This was OK - a bit better than a novella often is, which is why I gave it 3 stars - in a longer novel it might have only been 2.5 stars. But it didn't spur me on to read more by this author - I won't avoid her, but won't seek her out based on this ( )

Genevieve is sweet but naive. This naivety employed reads as slightly dim-witted making her a hard character to love. She is most endearing and relatable when her passion and free-spirited true self goes unchecked. When Tobias returns the fun really begins. The best reading is when the young lovers are alone and their pent-up passions for each other ignite.

The male characters are strikingly different objects of affection. Felton is dark, dashing and dangerous. Tobias is untamed, overgrown and lusty. Tobias is very sexy and the obvious love match, but Felton is the most intriguing character. His mind is veiled throughout the entire story with only a few moments that reveal his deep appeal. His character displayed is an intelligent, highly calculating devil with feeling. Felton remains a tempting mystery. (Maybe Genevieve isn't so dim-witted after all!) ( )

This is another free Nook download.

I enjoyed parts of this, but I never really understood why the heroine was so in love with her husband's business partner. Therefore I didn't understand the rest of her actions. Especially her stubborn refusal to see the good in the hero.

For a short story (novella length) I thought the romance was well done. I really liked the hero and how quick he was willing to cop to his feelings.

Overall not a bad read. ( )

Eloisa James packs a lot into a short novella in "A Fool Again." When Genevieve was a young girl, she ran off to Gretna Green for a quick marriage to Tobias. This love match was thwarted when her father intercepted them on the way, but not before Genevieve had been ruined. He hastily marries her off to an old man who is kind to her, but is very cheap. When he dies, his will speculates that in order to receive his money, she must marry one of his business partners within two years.

Genevieve fancies the handsome Felton, and she is sure that within 2 years they will be happily married. Just when it seems Felton is ready to commit, Tobias arrives after 7 long years in India. He's heard that Genevieve is free again and has now come to retrieve his bride. But Genevieve is madly in love with Felton...isn't she?

This story had a rather slow start for such a short novella, but once Genevieve's mourning period was over, the pace increased and I was hooked. Tobias is a likable hero, and he knows exactly what to say to make Genevieve (and the reader) swoon. When the ending arrived, I wasn't quite ready for it. I believe this story could easily be made into a longer novel. Tobias and Genevieve aren't characters you'll soon forget. Very interesting and fun--a perfect, lite afternoon read! ( )
