Fiction. Romance. HTML:Duty is his world. And upon seeing Sadie Price with twin girls, marine Rick Pruitt realizes he has some proposing to do. He never would have left Royal, Texas, if he'd known Sadie was carrying his babies.

There wasn't much to this book really. It wasn't poorly written but it wasn't stand out writing either. The characterization was light. Motivations for the secret child aspect were not good. When he did come home and learn of the twins, she didn't want to marry him if he didn't love her. Fair enough. Motivation for him to decide he wouldn't love again was weird. He didn't want to love anyone because his buddy's last words were "Tell my wife I love her." That somehow love wasn't worth it because you'd just die and someone would end up hurt. WTF? Isn't that what happens even when your Grandmother dies?

There was some misunderstanding because he didn't tell her something that he totally would/should have told her considering the previous set up for this element in the story. That kind of manipulation just irks me.

There was random throw in of POV from the heroine's brother that was totally obvious as a set up for the next book. I don't mind setting up for the next book but this had absolutely nothing to do with the present book. Shenanigans I say.

The twins were not yet three and were written age appropriately. The love scenes were fairly well done. Although really, unprotected sex again? No lessons learned?

After his tour in Iraq marine Rick Pruitt has returned home for his 30 days leave. He loves his life as a marine but now he is beginning to feel its toll. He is not sure if he should enlist again or retired and take the rains of his family ranch.
During his second day back in Royal, Texas he runs into Sadie Price, the woman that has attracted him all his life, the same one he had a one night stand before leaving for his tour of service 3 years ago, the last time he was in Royal. One night he hasn’t been able to forget, the memories of that night made him company and help him through difficult times.
Sadie asks him to take her to her house, she needs to tell him something and she needs to do it in her house. At Sadie’s place a big surprise is awaiting for him or I should say two little surprises… after their night together Sadie got pregnant with twins, she never told him anything because she was afraid of breaking the news while he was in the combat zone. Saying that Rick is upset is an understatement, Sadie hided the knowledge of his daughters for three years. Now he wants to do what is “right” and wants Sadie to marry him, to give their daughters a family, but Sadie declines his proposition, she doesn’t want to marry him because she “has or should” marry him, she already marry one man because it was the right thing to do for her family and it end really bad, the guy was a cheating bastard. Next time she gets married she wants to marry for love and doesn’t want a husband who would leave her for months. Rick now needs to decide what he really wants, his marine career or to have a family and if he decides for a family he needs to convince Sadie to marry him.

The characters and the plot were a little bit too stereotypical and to be honest in this kind of books the same plots are use and recycle countless times, being almost impossible not to be stereotypical. The good thing One Night, Two Heirs has on its favor it’s that it is well written.

I liked the relationships in the book, especially the one between Rick and his daughters and the one between Sadie and her best friend Abby. There was a secondary story between Sadie’s brother Brad and Abby, but this story didn’t have any conclusion, I guess it was a set up for the next book.

My final though: One Night, Two Heirs was a fun, sexy, quick read. A contemporary romance with a touch of cowboys and men in uniform, and who doesn’t like those.
One Night, Two Heirs was my first book by Maureen Child but it won’t be my last. ( )
