The author states that "the terms 'savage' and 'barbaric' are used to indicate levels of technological productivity [referring to a 19th-century classification of cultures from 'primitive' to 'civilized'] and are not meant in a disparaging sense." This is no excuse, however, for perpetuating the use of these offensive terms. …
