For homicide detective Mac, it's been a good year. Having Tony to go home to makes him a better cop and a better person. For Tony, it's been hard being in love with a man he can't touch in public. Evasions and outright lying to friends and family take a little of the shine off his relationship with Mac, but Tony is determined to make it work. As the Minneapolis Police Department moves into a hot, humid summer, Mac is faced with a different challenge. A killer has murdered two blond women, and the police have no real clues. Mac hates to think that another murder may be the only way they'll make progress with the case. But when that murder happens, it hits close to home for Tony. And suddenly Mac faces an ultimatum: come out into the sunlight and stand beside Tony as his lover, or walk away and live without a piece of his heart.… (meer)

The narration is still excellent, as are the boys ❤️
I love the progression of Mac & Tony's relationship here. Dire circumstances made both of them reconsider their life choices (more so for Mac). ( )

This novel wins full stars in part because it's believable - which seems silly on the surface, but I'm reading another cop romance in which the cop part is more fantasy than realistic (I like the characters, so I treat it as a fantasy) and the difference is striking. Much better tension, just for one thing. I liked that realistic edge in the first book, and this one does not disappoint at all. It may be even better. The kids seem real, not used as props. Mac's struggle with being gay in a toxic dudebro environment isn't presented as anything other than potentially dangerous. In short, this was really good and I'm glad I already own book 3! ( )

Even better than the first book. I like Tony and Mac. Harper handles the issues at hand with a deft touch which is both sensitive and realistic. ( )

It's great to see what is happening next for Tony and Mac. I really found myself starting to like them in the first book in this series. Of course, I'm not at all surprised to see them wrapped right up in trouble again, though.

The tone of this book, the characters and their interactions, and the word in which they live had a seamless consistency with the first book - something I haven't always seen in series. Even though it's been a while since I read the first book, I was able to jump back in and re-immerse myself rather easily.

My only complaints would be that this one probably goes on a bit longer than necessary and that too many things happened that just seemed overly convenient for the story. This happened a bit in the first book, but they were close enough to feeling natural that it didn't throw me too much. I started to feel otherwise here, and am hoping I'm on the wrong path and it's not where the rest of the series is headed. ( )

Yes I had already bought this book (from Kobo) but when I finally got round to transfering it into a format for my Kindle (in view of the fact I'm hoping to read the first in the series this month), I discovered that what was in Kobo's copy of Breaking Cover was actually Life Lessons again! Kobo don't know when they can correct the issue, so they have removed it from my library.

I will need to buy this elsewhere. ARe probably.
