There are two very important reason why this book can not be the end:

1) She did not end up with Justin. When she OBVIOUSLY should have ended up with Justin. (Yes, I am Team Justin)
2) There was something up with the dad. There was SOMETHING up with the Dad. I want to know what was up with the Dad. There were hints in book 1, that something was up with the dad. That NEEDS to be played to fruition.

I love this series. The characters are well developed and realistic. Clarity is obviously at the center of the story, but she has a very strong supporting cast, along with periphal characters to give the story depth. Despite the "gifts" that Clarity and her family possess, this book is still a classic mystery.

I appreciated the candor of this book. Clarity is not a trained detective and is still young, which translates in her actions and thoughts. She makes some classic mistakes of logic while trying to solve the mysteries piling up around her. Hence the the title of the book. Perception is everything; but Clarity finds out that perception is often dangerous and misleading.

I was also very pleased with her decisions concerning various relationships. I know I'm not supposed to want a certain person to be picked, liked, etc. But I do and I did:)

Highly Recommended

This is the second book in the Clarity series. Hopefully there will be more! Clare can see into the past and it is a pretty handy skill in solving crimes. Clare is beginning to realize that she wants to use her gift for helping people instead of just catering to tourists through her family business. The first book left readers wondering if she was going to go back to her ex-boyfriend, Justin or start dating Gabriel. Gabriel is new in town, he’s super hot and his dad is the new chief of police. We get some more insight into Gabriel’s past that makes readers like him even more. He understands Clare better than most of her other friends and there is a lot of foreshadowing as to who she will pick to be her boyfriend.
Clare is becoming close to a girl named Mallory. This is her first real friend at school since she has been shunned before because of her gift. Everyone always thought she was just the weird girl. Because she is beautiful, smart and can see the past – she becomes a target of a stalker. It started off with some small romantic gestures, so she assumed it was Justin or Gabriel, but then it quickly turned into scary stalking. This is the mystery that needs to be solved!
I am definitely hooked on the two Clarity books. I love the characters, the suspense, the mystery, romance and elements of paranormal powers. It’s a fast-paced entertaining read. The setting is a small New England town. Clarity lives in a Victorian mansion and it really fits her and the mood of the book. I love everything about it ☺ I’m not sure that the maturity of the characters makes it suitable for 7th and 8th graders, but it’s perfect for high school readers. There is no explicit sex or drug use. But people die and there is some hard-core stalking and kidnapping going on. It’s a good addition for a school library. I’ve been recommending it to readers who I know like mystery and paranormal stories. It would be a good book club read. Maybe it would fit into a contemporary literature class, where students read current YA books. Librarians could design fun book displays based on the theme of these stories. ( )

GoodReads Synopsis: When you can see things others can't, what do you do when someone's watching you?

Everybody knows about Clarity "Clare" Fern. She's the psychic girl in school, the one who can place her hands on something and see hidden visions from the past.

Only Clare would rather not be a celebrity. She prefers hanging back, observing. Her gift is not a game to her.

But then someone starts playing with her head . . . and heart. Messages and gifts from a secret admirer crop up everywhere Clare turns. Could they be from Gabriel, the gorgeous boy who gets Clare's pulse racing? Or from Justin, Clare's hopeful ex-boyfriend who'd do anything to win her back?

One thing is certain. Clare needs to solve this mystery, and soon. Because the messages are becoming sinister, and a girl in town has suddenly disappeared

My Thoughts: I love this series! It’s not a traditional mystery, it’s way more fun!

In this installment we have some common threads from the previous book, Clarity, that weave through this one. I love the subplots that continue in the background, they keep me coming back for more…kind of makes me feel like I’m part of the family.

Since “Clarity” took place during the Summer, Perception starts out shortly thereafter and Clare is in school. In previous years Clare has been perceived as an “odd ball”, but after helping to solve the murder from the Summer, the “cool” kids are paying her more attention. Clare also seems to have a secret admirer/stalker. Add to this the fact that a Senior has gone missing and Clare’s got a lot on her plate.

Maybe I was a bit slow reading Perception, but I didn’t figure it out until just before Clare did…that doesn’t happen to me very often. I find this series to be so much fun. Lots of twists and turns, very likeable, flawed, HUMAN characters, some with extraordinary gifts, all of them with great personal stories. I sincerely hope Harrington can find the creativity needed to keep this series going for a long time to come. ( )
