This book was a very easy read. However, I found it to be boring and repetitive.
I didn't find it informing and I will probably donate it to my local library. It just was not what I was not what I was looking for. No real weight loss help and or tips. ( )

I received this book as an early reviewer and I was very glad when it arrived. I found the author to be conversational with a unique style. While I don't think that the word "revolutionary" is an approprate description for the information in the book, as taking a certain amount of steps a day has been recommended many times in past readings of mine, I found the information contained in the pages within to be a nice refresher and I am always happy to see (in print) that the number on the scale is not the last word when it comes to being considered healthy. The author does a very good job at getting that point across. My favorite part of the book was Part IV, "Endnotes and More Detail on the Science Underlying This Book". I found this section to be extremely informative and worthwhile reading. The information contained in this section is what raises my review of this book from three stars to four. Thank you very much. It's about time someone came out and explained how you can be fit and not necessarily thin as a rail, or that losing weight isn't all there is to being fit. So many people will jump on any Diet train that comes by hoping for a miracle. This author can tell you there is a miracle help for a lot of what will ail us but it might not be what you think it is. The book reads quickly, each chapter being a few pages covering the point without a lot of added experience examples that often see to serve only to double or triple the number of pages. You may have heard all that's in there but this is a helpful approach with simple and direct suggestions for getting real about your health program. ( )

I received this as part of the LT early reviewer program. While the information he communicates is heartening to those of us who struggle with our weight, the style in which he communicates it is annoying and repetitive. I found myself simultaneously feeling bored and aggravated. The essential points he makes could have been captured in a brief article. And much of the research he cites is decades old. Not that there's anything intrinsically wrong with that--but I think he would have been well-served to add more current supportive documentation. That being said, it's a quick read that emphasizes the "healthy at any size" philosophy, and extols the benefits of walking 10000 steps/day. There--just saved you the cost of the book!

The best approach to this book, in my opinion, is to focus on its basic message- that achieving a minimum level of fitness, the equivalent of 10,000 footsteps per day, will significantly reduce mortality regardless of your weight. Not a new idea, but stated here in an entertaining and compelling way. The chapters on self-image and dealing with your physician added little here, and seemed like filler. ( )
