Good continuation of Touch of Power. The story never fails to surprise me with its twists. We meet some new people, some good, some bad, and our old favorites are along for the ride too. There's not a whole lot to say here.

All in all, definitely read it if you've read the first book in the series, or if you like any of Maria V. Snyder's other series. She always keeps you on your toes. ( )

Scent of Magic is the second book in Maria V. Snyder's Healer series. I loved the first book and was looking forward to reading this installment, and I wasn't disappointed,

Avry of Kazan is a favorite character of mine because she is so strong, but not at all cold. In fact, I loved the majority of the characters in this book! Ms. Snyder is a master at world building, but she's just as good at writing characters you just want to root for. And the pacing of the story made this an easy read for me.

In summary, I absolutely loved this book and can't wait to read book #3, Taste of Darkness.

I liked how this was more expansive than its predecessor--there were a lot of events to follow, but they came together very nicely. The climax was a little silly with the number of people appearing out of the forest.

Basically if you liked the last one, you'll probably like this one. ( )

The good: action and a plot nicely rounded, an interesting world
The "less good": the characters' emotions fall somewhat flat, the world building could have been more in depth.
A warning: there's a mean cliffhanger at the end of book 2. in fact, books 2 and 3 feel like the two parts of the same book. ( )

I love Maria V Snyder's books so was extremely excited to be offered this book to read and review. I hadn't read book #1, Touch of Power so I read the two of them back to back. I am happy to say I wasn't disappointed. Yet again, Maria V Snyder has created another interesting series that I cannot get enough of.

I loved the direction this book went in after the ending of the first book and that we saw the story from both Avry and Kerrick's point of views. As always, the peripheral characters are just as interesting as the main characters and just as 3 dimensional.

This series is not set in the world of Ms Snyder's previous books but instead she has created a whole new world that is rebuilding after a terrible plague. This second book continued the story created in book one, expanding on the story, the world and the characters and kept me completely in the story from beginning to end. And the ending... Once again book 3 cannot come fast enough.

I love stories with magic, strong characters, an interesting world and a captivating storyline and this book has all this. Another great series from Ms Snyder and I cannot wait to see what book #3 brings.

I give this book 4 stars!
