Lincoln grew up on a farm in the South where he studied and helped his family till crops. One day, he and his family moved. When he saw how different things were in an area where slavery was still allowed, Lincoln felt the need to fight for fair and equal rights for all. He studied law and eventually, after the North defeated the South in the country's last civil war, Lincoln announced the end of slavery at his famous Gettysburg Address.

This biography, written for elementary students, is a great introduction into the study of Abraham Lincoln and the fight for equal rights. Students could research, record and describe the most important historical moments where Lincoln's life affected or was affected by the timeline of slavery in the United States. ( )

The book has nicely done illustrations. It was not very difficult to read.
