Horn does an excellent job profiling the various detectives featured, and the cases she cites are riveting. The book slows down in parts when Horn devotes pages and pages to the tiniest details of a case, but overall it's an interesting look at how one subsection of NYC's police department functions. A truly wonderfully written first hand account of the hardships and heartbreaks of the cold case squad in New York city. While reading The Restless Sleep, I was floored more than once with Ms. Horn’s full-bodied real life storytelling. Instead of giving us an “NPR” view of detectives, victims and the rest of New York, Ms. Horn hands us a real life, gritty, gut-wrenching, my god how does anyone manage to solve even one case scrutiny of these real life people. Documenting cases from the 1950s to today, Horn explores the files that the New York Police Department have waiting for answers. The writing is occasionally dry, but both victims and detectives have fascinating stories that readers will love. The crimes are equally as violent and gruesome as CSI or Law and Order, but people who are accustomed to splashy computer effects may not have the patience to visual the scenes for themselves. Fans of Patricia Cornwell and Ann Rule will enjoy this, as well as anyone who wants more information on the seedy history of New York City. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
