Fiction. Horror. Suspense. Thriller. HTML:

"Anyone starting this book under the impression that he may sleepily relax is in for a shock...continually provokes both pity and terror." â??The Observer (UK)

A classic of alienation and horror, The Birds was immortalised by Hitchcock in his celebrated film. The five other chilling stories in this collection echo a sense of dislocation and mock man's dominance over the natural world. The mountain paradise of 'Monte Verità' promises immortality, but at a terrible price; a neglected wife haunts her husband in the form of an apple tree; a professional photographer steps out from behind the camera and into his subject's life; a date with a cinema usherette leads to a walk in the cemetery; and a jealous father finds a remedy when three's a crowd . . .… (meer)

I like the book because it's a horror and i like the horror. In the same time i dont like because it's painfull about the life and other people are so dangerous. ( )

A famous film, directed by the great Alfred Hitchcock, was based on this short story. It's a very simple idea - for some reason, birds begin to attack humans. Very little is explained, which is something I liked about it - I was still thinking about the book long after I finished reading it.
It is scary, and in places quite gory, so if you don't like horror stories avoid this book. ( )

I actually didnt like this book. I found it strange, boring, and somewhat predictable. However, I did like the movie, way more then the book. The story line of the movie was much more intresting and in depth. ( )
