Spiritually Awakening We all have perceptions of how "Christians" are suppose to walk the walk. We are quick to judge when they fall short of the glory. What we fail to realize is Christians make mistakes too. They are human. Acacia Slaton Beumer, the author of “Launch Out Into the Deep,” has walked the walked. It wasn't always easy. She includes personal accounts to demonstrate the battle. I really enjoyed “Launch Out Into the Deep.” Beumer includes biblical stories and personal situations to encourage one to give their spiritual being an awakening. The chapters are written for anyone to understand. One thing I loved was how each chapter ended with scripture, words of wisdom and discussion questions. The discussion questions allow you to reflect and apply teachings to your life. This is definitely one I would recommend. Reviewed by: Jas The journey through daily life is not easy, especially in the 21st Century. This book may make that journey a little easier. Daily life is supposed to be hard, with trials and challenges everywhere. Jesus never said, "Follow me, and you will have no problems or worries. I will take care of everything." How are you going to deal with grudges, resentment or really unpleasant people? There is nothing wrong with wanting to become rich or famous, until the point is reached where your moral upbringing and "soul" gets tossed in the garbage. Living water, through Jesus, is just as important as drinking water for survival. Some people think that all that is needed to be a Christian is to obey the Ten Commandments, attend church on Sunday, or give to the poor. It's not that easy. A person has to confess to being a sinner, admit a real need for a savior and believe that Jesus is the Son of God. Having fewer, or "milder," sins than someone else does not make a person more righteous. In today's society, it is very easy, especially for men, to get involved in sexual promiscuity. First, you need to confess your shortcomings to God and ask for His help to battle the temptation. Then, you need to avoid all types of pornographic images. The more you think about such things, the easier it is to go back to your old behavior. In this age of AIDS, many people still practice unsafe sex, convinced that it won't happen to them. Life's trails and tribulations are necessary, though they may not seem necessary at the time, because they build character, strength and humility. Like the old saying says, "One day at a time." Don't worry about tomorrow until it arrives. To be a Christian, it is not always necessary to say "Hallelujah" or carry a Bible. Sometimes, the way you carry yourself and act around others will be enough to spread the "message." This book is full of short essays and poems on various parts of daily life, and it is very much worth the reader's time. It is equally recommended for those who want a closer relationship with God, but don't know the route, and those who may need a spiritual jumpstart. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

Launch Out into the Deep is a book anyone can relate to. It addresses the need for fulfillment, the challenges faced in life, and the void that can only be filled by the love and acceptance of Jesus. This is a Christian book that does more than just tell you what you should do. It makes it all personal.
Beumer and Slaton write chapters that are relevant and real. A reader can pick up any chapter and have it stand alone while reading them all together creates something even more powerful. Beumer, who writes the majority of the chapters, gives personal experiences to explain her statements and drive the idea home. She speaks from personal experience and not as one who has studied and is spouting ‘wise words’. Her words are from the heart and soul.
Slaton’s poetry is beautiful and compliments Beumer’s words perfectly. Each chapter has at least one poem accompanying it as well as quotes and sayings. If you are not one for poetry, I still suggest you read Slaton’s work but it is easy to skip over if you just cannot read the style. You will be missing out on something, though.
One thing I really love about the format and design of the book is that each chapter as a list of discussion questions that would work in an individual Bible study or in a group setting. They are not fluff questions. They are deep and designed to get the reader thinking beyond the surface of the issue. The questions get into the reader’s own heart.
If you are looking for a moving and inspirational Christian book this book, this is one you need to add to your to-read list. Beumer and Slaton have done an excellent job. This is one book I’ll find myself reading again as there is no way for me to get the full impact with just one reading.
