Another award winning book that features a child being raped.it was well written, but I wish I hadn't read it ( )

This is a tough book to review. The story is entertaining but it is very wordy, even though it is less than 200 pages long. It is translated into English from its original German, and was written by a Swiss author ( the German language and the Swiss people are not known for their hilarity). No fear that this will ever be a mainstream book especially here in the USA, it could however be a funny movie. ( )

I'm still trying to set my mind on this book. I enjoyed it, but I'm not sure how much. That is, the idea is good and the writing but I don't know. I need some more time to think about it. ( )

A truly wonderful book. On its surface, there's a peculiar and intriguing adventure story set in a unique locale. Underneath, it layers allusions and dramatic irony to present a multi-faceted view of the German experience and what might have been but was lost. The language and form are nearly perfect and play a good bit with the knowledge and cynicism of the modern reader. I was consistently overjoyed at the dark humor present here. Highly recommended. An interesting quirky read. It reminded me somewhat of [b:Into the Wild|1845|Into the Wild|Jon Krakauer|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1403173986s/1845.jpg|3284484] by Krakauer in that both books, one marketed as a novel and the other as "creative non-fiction", take a close look at a real-life visionary person who tries to live an exceptional life and ends up making fatal mistakes along the way. ( )
