She's the captain of the ship he sneaks aboard, he's a Navy SEAL trying to stay alive as the Chinese are hot on his trail. They fall in lust immediately, even though she has huge trust issues with men, she seems awful trusting. Believability on that score is pretty low but the action scenes are good and engaging.

Wow bring your oxygen when reading this book. From beginning to end its non stop action and suspense. I couldn't put the book down till I finished it.

This book literally picks up 10 days after Red Heat where we saw U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander Clint Walker jump into the sea and swim away with stolen plan's from the Chinese. Clint has to make it back to the US with the chip and isn't having much luck. He finally decides to stow away on a cargo ship that headed out into the Alaskan Bering Sea. When he knocks on the captain's door late that night hoping to get the captain's cooperation he is shocked to find that the captain is a woman.

Captain Samantha Richardson doesn't trust men as far as she can throw them. Between her ex husband betraying her and having to constantly fight her father on having the career she wants she is out to prove herself with delivering the cargo with no issues. Having a man force his way into her room with a gun pointed at her isn't the way she saw things going.

Neither Clint nor Sam expect the flash of heat that suddenly sparks between them. But once Clint explains he needs a ride and its of national security that he gets to the US she reluctantly agrees that he can stay on as one of her crew.

When Sam and Clint finally give in to there attraction and are busy making interesting use of a hammock the ship is hijacked and from there its non stop action till almost the last page. The way the author writes I felt like I was right there with them hiding out and doing all the dangerous things it took to get her crew back.

I cannot wait for the next exciting adventure in this series.

First Thought When Finished: I need a man in uniform *sigh*

What I Thought of the Story: Nina Bruhns is quickly becoming one of my favorite Romantic Thriller/Suspense writers. She knows how to write a good story to go with all the smexy. In fact, I think I am a little in love with the way she ties her series together with little winks/nods to the books/characters that have come before. In White Hot, we get to see what happens to Clint after the end of Red Heat! He has got the disk and must make it back before the Chinese can track him down. To do this he stows away/signs on to be First Mate of a shipping vessel. Captain Samantha is his match in every way and when they are attacked she holds her own. The action in White Heat is top notch! It reminded me a bit of The Hunt for Red October in it's pacing and style. Nina just does a great job at pulling you into the story.

What I Thought of the Characters: Captain Samantha Richardson was a smart, tough, and independent female that I could identify with. That made the story so much fun. I kept asking what would I do and she reacted the way that I hope I would. Granted that included getting pissed, freaking out, and then taking care of business. She wasn't prepared for the mess that Clint brought with him. Clint=HAWT! I have a thing for guys with Native American heritage. They just scream: HOT HOT HOT! Plus a Navy Seal. Clint was White Hot and pretty much a walking fantasy. The only thing that stopped the characters from being a 5.00 was the insta-love within 24 hours kind of thing but then again they were in an extreme situation. Plus, I would totally fall in love with Clint so there is that!

Final Thought: I love this series! I don't like that only one a year comes out (next book summer 2013) but I will be pre-ordering as soon as its available! (DeAnne's story is next and that is going to be wicked fun) ( )
