Eschilo usa l'espressione «sogno che scivola nel chiaro del giorno» per descrivere l'impotenza e la debolezza dei vecchi che vengono abbandonati al proprio destino in tempi di guerra: «Vecchiaia inoltrata, vizzo / sfasciume di fronde / cammina con passi a tre piedi. / Laforza di un bimbo, sogno spossato / che scivola nel chiaro del giorno». Per Eschilo, come per gran parte della tradizione occidentale, il sogno che impotente attraversa il confine entrando nella vita di veglia è ciò che è irreale: socialmente irreale (come i vecchi di Argo), folle (come i pazzi che vivono nelle loro fantasie), o infantile. Ma in India il sogno che scivola nel chiaro del giorno non svanisce, rende anzi la luce del giorno ancora più chara: illumina gli angoli nascosti della vita di veglia mostrandoci ombre che risplendono più della luce.
