{my thoughts} – This was a neat little book about a baker that was more or less kidnapped by fairies. They took her to their underground environment and then told her she needed to bake them a cake. She was a smart lady and she used her smarts to get her animals, her husband and her baby there with her and then used them again to get them all home safely. She even made a deal with the fairies about baking them a cake when they’d like in the future as long as they asked nicely. They also rewarded her for the first cake she had made them.

This book would be a nice addition to any child’s bookshelf. It is well written, the images are lovely and it was just an all around enjoyable story. ( )

Lovely fairy tale picture book! The illustrations have a bit of a retro feel to them, without seeming outdated. Kids will enjoy spotting the fairies hiding outside the bakerwoman's home, as well as seeing baking implements, pets, and a baby float out the window on the hands of invisible fairies. Definitely an enjoyable read.

Note: I received a digital copy of this book through NetGalley. ( )

I have to agree with the last line in this humorous and creative book For fairies gold, they say, is like love or knowledgeor a good story. It is most valuable when its shared. The Woman Who Flummoxed The Fairies is just that- a very good story.

I found the illustrations rustic-old timer, but full of beautiful detail. Throughout the book I found myself snickering at what the bakerwoman made these fairies do. The kids were laughing at the scene of items floating out of the house by these invisible fairies, which was witness by a very flummoxed husband a baby. Even the dog and the house cat floated out the window.

The ending had me laughing so hard it became contagious. The babys final role in the whole ordeal was priceless. This is one story that we all loved as a family, that we have read over and over again-never tiring of the laughter it produces.

A gifted baker is kidnapped by the king of the fairies to stay forever in his realm as his personal cake-maker! She asks for the things she needs from her house to help her bake, and her requests get more and more obnoxious. They can't stand her crying baby, barking dog, and huge husband. The king frees her, and she promises to always leave offerings of fine baked goods where he and his fairies can find them.

(88) Storyteller Forest is back with this Scottish tale of a an extraordinary baker who manages to oufox the fairies who have captured her. Gentle, muted illustrations add an otherworldly touch. Highly recommended. Review based on publisher's galley via NetGalley.com. ( )
