Over the last several years, I have developed an interest in American History. That spilled over into my interest in theology , and I have developed an interest in American Church History. This seemed like a very nice convergence of the two interests in History. Both the advantage and disadvantage, I have had is I have read some thoroughly entertaining and informing authors. Steven Ambrose and David McCullough on the American History side and Stephen Nichols and D.G. Hart on the American Church History side. Tis book , while well researched and in an area of my interst, just does not quite measure up to those standards. In all fairness, the origins of this book were the Ph.D paper of the author, and it has a tendency to read that way through the entire book. This is an informative book, and I guess history doesn't always havae to be entertaining, so if somone has an interest in the Huguenots in America this would be the difinitive work. I guess, I have just been spoiled and this didn't meet the high bar of some of the previous authors that I hve read. ( )
