Book 1 in the Bad In Boots series In order to meet her Great-aunt Sally's will stipulation to 'handle the sale personally,' Jena Hudson visits Texas to finalize the sale of her aunt's ranch to her neighbor, Harm Steele. What Jena didn't expect was to fall for the rugged, sexy cowboy. Harm might find Jena to be the most sensual creature he's ever met, but he won't let her sultry body be more than a satisfying distraction. He learned a long time ago that happily-ever-afters are best left for childhood fantasies. So what's a girl to do when she finds out the man of her dreams doesn't believe in a happy ending? This sexy novella kicks off the Bad in Boots series. What an opening it has too. Two strangers meet in an elevator and the sexual attraction is so off the charts these two act on it. Problem is they have something in common…

Harmon Steele (I just love that name) is at a hotel to meeting with Ty Hudson and his sister Jena to buy their Great Aunt’s farm that Ty lives adjacent to. He was very close with their Aunt and since he already used part of her land for his horses he figured she would have for sure left him the farm in her will. To his surprise she didn’t but Ty wants nothing to do with Texas or the farm and figures his sister will feel the same way so he set up the meeting to sell to Harm. Well imagine Harm and Jena’s surprise when they come face to face in the meeting after their hot tryst in the elevator neither knowing who the other was.

Jena who’s never really had a place to call home as her father’s job always had them moving growing up has decided maybe she doesn’t want to sell and is thinking about staying in Texas and living in her Aunt’s house. This doesn’t go over to well with Harm and puts the two at odds.

These two have one more night of hot sex before Harm backs away. Seems he has some views on permanent relationships – he wants nothing to do with them. Jena sticks to her guns about staying and Harm walks around brooding for weeks over it even though it’s as plain as the Stetson in his head he’s in love with Jena but he refuses to change his mind about having a relationship with her. How long do you think that last (wink)

Ok, so what was the point? The author never reveals why the MC is so afraid of commitment & then a small speech by the girl & a dance-a-tho change his mind? Huh? We never see why she's so convince he's the one for her & how/why/when she falls in love with him. The writing is good, the dialog interesting, the author just doesn't have enough time? Or does know how to show them falling for each other. A good start but it falls short. ( )

This was my first time reading this author’s work, and while the story was entertaining, it felt incomplete due to the short length of the book.

Jena Hudson and her brother Ty inherited a ranch in Texas after the death of their great aunt Sally Tanner. In the great aunt’s will, there is a stipulation that if the Hudson siblings decide to sell, they have to complete the transaction in person; one question is why wasn’t a reason given as to why the sale had to be handled personally? Unfortunately for us, as well as the book’s characters, a reason is never provided.

Jena doesn’t want to sign the papers selling the ranch until she sees it one last time, so Harm takes her to the ranch. On the way they encounter a terrible thunderstorm and end up in a one-car crash just down the road from the ranch, with Harm suffering a head injury and wakes up thinking he and Jena have been dating for a while. Jena keeps the ruse up even though she knows it’s wrong and promises herself that she will tell him the truth the following morning. So they stay the night at the ranch having all kinds of fabulous monkey sex. Unfortunately for Jena, Harm regains his memory before she can tell him the truth and he wants nothing to do with her.

We’re told that Jena has always made decisions on a whim without giving whatever subject matter any thought, but the only time we get to see that is when she decides to keep the ranch house and just sell the surrounding acres to Harm. Jena has always believed in the happily-ever-after with that special someone, and she wants that with Harm.
Harm on the other hand has no use for believing in the fairy tale romance and marriage, when he explains to Jena why he doesn’t believe in it, after discovering the true reason for his parents’ unhappy marriage. But try as he might, he can’t forget the night they spent together and how she made him, and continues to make him feel about a relationship, love and the possibility of his own happily-ever-after.

I liked how Jena finally figured out on her own that no matter she tries to do to win Harm over, he may not want that HEA with her and she decides to cut her ties to the ranch, so that they can both move on with their lives. Of course Harm finally comes around and admits his feelings to Jena, who is overjoyed that he finally admits to believing in the happily-ever-after. An overall cute story, but I just wished it would have been longer. ( )
