This is a time-travel story that’s very well written. It starts out in the year 2310 and it goes back to the 1800′s. You can just imagine the differences in time.
When I first started reading about Jazz, I wasn’t all that impressed with him. He acted like he had no emotion and was just inhuman. But a little into the book you start to understand why. If I had years of my memory erased and took medicine that kept me from feeling any human emotion. Everyone hated me because I was in a war that I couldn’t remember. I’d be the same way. He gets sent on a mission that he knows nothing about and told lies. I’d went back to the future and told them to kiss my behind and get someone else to do their dirty deeds.
Now the heroine Eliza, she’s the kind of woman I’d like to be. She’s no fainting, crying, wallflower. When she realizes that her dad and her home is nothing but ashes, because the soliders caught it on fire. Does she go into hysterics? No she sucks it up and follows Jazz, who was sent to the future to take care of her.
Eliza has a backbone and has spunk and doesn’t take things laying down. When she finds the man that she loves, she fights for him.
I really like the first real human emotion that Jazz had besides lust. He’s a man so, of course we all know that for them that’s usual. When he starts crying and doesn’t understand how to stop or why he’s even doing it. Now that’s a emotion that I wished more men would show.
You can tell that Jazz is in love with Eliza. He knows what’s supposed to happen since he’s from the future. He does what he can to provide for her and their child. He realizes that he has to let her go to marry someone else, while he goes back to the future. Things are to stay the same so the future stays the way it’s meant to.
I really enjoyed the unfolding of the story and the unexpected ending. The author did an amazing job when she wrote Her Outlandish Stranger.
