Armed and Outrageous is a USA Today Bestseller, October 17, 2013. Hilarious Senior sleuths - Grandma Mazur meets Murder She Wrote - cozy mystery. Agnes Barton is not your typical senior citizen living in Tadium, MI, on the shores of Lake Huron. She drives a red hot Mustang, shops at Victoria's Secret, rankles local police officials, and has a knack for sticking her nose where it doesn't belong. What does a murder that happened forty-three years ago have to do with missing tourist Jennifer Martin? Agnes makes it her personal mission to find out, and she's not letting the fact she's seventy-two get in the way. Butting heads with Sheriff Clem Peterson is something she's accustomed to, but lately Clem seems to be acting even more strange, making Agnes wonder what he may be hiding ala the Martin disappearance. Agnes' partner in crime, Eleanor Mason tags along, Watson to her Holmes. Together, they unearth clues. If only Eleanor would behave, as although lovable, she has a knack for getting into trouble by tangling with her rival, Dorothy Alton, or flirting with anyone-male or female-and gossiping! She's incorrigible, but she does carry a Pink Lady revolver in her purse, one that has proved useful at times. Life for Agnes and Eleanor is shaken up when Agnes' former boss and secret crush comes to Tadium. Before long, the lady sleuths have more on their hands to contend with as goons roll into town and bullets begin to fly. Adult content.… (meer)

Hilarious.

Loved this book. Laughed so hard at so many parts. At points it rambled but I think it added to the story due to the age of Agnes. ( )

I suppose someone was going to try and re-invent Miss Marple at some point and bring her into the 21st Century. Madison made a very valiant effort with Armed and Outrageous. Agnes is our blue-rinse amateur sleuth. She’s 71 years old, got a twinkle in her eye, and very definitely all her marbles.

A pretty young girl, Jennifer, goes missing, and Agnes is more than just a little determined to get to the bottom of her disappearance, as her own granddaughter has been missing for a whole year. Aided by her best friend, Eleanor, (who may well be the more ‘Outrageous’ of the duo), they find themselves at both ends of a gun more often than they should, in compromising positions rather frequently, a little ahem-ahem ‘happy’ more than once, and constantly at odds with the way they should be behaving as senior citizens. Agnes’ conviction that her missing granddaughter is still alive, compels her to get to the bottom of Jennifer’s disappearance in the hope she will find the answer to both missing girls.

This was a promising endeavour by Madison, but there is plenty of room for improvement. I had a question mark or two (for example, Agnes’ daughter would have been grief-stricken to have her own daughter missing, but little if nothing was made of it), the book needs some serious editing (a large number of errors and the book meandered between present and past tenses), and has rather a long and confusing cast list. BUT it was funny, sharp, and entertaining. Agnes is the sort of pensioner we all secretly aspire to be…spunky, active, and…outrageous.

What captivated me about this book was that you get the impression that Madison really, really enjoyed writing it—there’s heart, soul, enthusiasm, and plenty of feeling in it. I think Madison is still in a learning curve, but she is very definitely headed in the right direction, and I am looking forward to more adventures from this silver-haired senior. ( )

DNF - this was supposed to be a cozy mystery. But it was about two senior ladies running around acting like teenagers in heat. They went to an adult shop and gave minute details of everything they purchased. One lady got drunk and slept with the lawyer she had had a crush on 20 years before. She also kept saying things to the lawyer and making him angry. I think she wanted him to admit his feelings first - while he was waiting for her to admit her feelings. Just like teenagers.

I got half way through and could not be bothered to finish the book. The sheriffs office were clearly quite incompetant and the whining and dialogue was not funny at all. This was really nothing more than a teenage whine fest but done by seniors.

NO more SENIOR sleuths for me. Now I know why I never bothered to read Miss Marple. ( )

Now, don't get me wrong, I thought the book was good. It was really cute and had me smiling and laughing on many parts. I just thought it was a bit much for me in some areas.

Call me a prude, which I have been called at least once in my life. lol...But, I am not trying to hear about Granny's sex lives! Im sorry! It wasn't great detail but enough to make me cringe. Then, you have the dirty old man in the book. ugh! And Agnes had a mouth on her! But, I could get past all of that, if I knew what was coming. Normally, when I read a cozy, I am trying to get away from all of that. So, that's what set me off about this book

I found myself getting bored a few times throughout the book and wanted to just give up. The only reason I kept reading was because I bought the audible book. It was only $1.99 but still...LOL...Plus, I don't know how to get audio books off of my kindle, so, even if you don't finish it, you have to look at it every time you go onto the audio-book part of the kindle.

I loved Agnes, Eleanor & Andrew. The growth of this 70 year old Sleuth and how she was able to see what her issues were and try to move forward on how to handle it.

The writing wasn't bad at all. Just the couple things that through me off and I just kept getting bored. The audio book is what kept me reading. The narrator was good and how she read some parts made the funny parts funnier!

I very much doubt I will be going on in the series. It will take quite a bit for me to do so. Although I did look at the title of book 7 and got a little curious (cant think of the title off hand and don't feel; like looking lol). I try not to ever discourage anyone from reading a book..especially ones that have potential...This book has great potential as do the others in the series, I just don't think they are for me. :-) ( )

A cozy mystery with senior citizens. The characters are caricatures, and their interaction is too forcedly funny. ( )
