The first reason I liked this book was because of the characters. The book was a true story, so each of the characters were real live people. "Marty watched his wife pet the calf. As caretaker of a buffalo ranch in Genesse Park, he knew that none of the buffalo would feed an orphaned calf." Here the reader is able to gain knowledge about the main characters and the setting of where they live. The second reason I liked this book was because of the descriptive and clear language used throughout. "First the vet gave Nickel and anesthetic to put him to sleep. Then Marty held Nickel's head steady while the horns were sawed off." Through the language in this piece of text the reader is able to understand the procedure that Nickel went through when his horns were removed. The last reason I liked this book was because of the illustrations. The Illustrations fits the style of the written text as well as the mood of the story. For example when Nickel had his horns removed the illustrations displayed the sad emotion that he felt, compared to the happiness he had before the surgery. In the end, I feel that the 'big idea' of this book is to remember that all animals can be great pets if raised properly however, they should be returned to the wild after they are rehabilitated. In other words, if you love something you have to set it free. ( ) geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
