The characters are well developed through honest narratives which showcase their individual traits and flaws. The hopeful, lonely, slightly cynical inner monologue of twelve-year old Grady is realistically captured and conveyed throughout this novel. Readers quickly gain an understanding and attachment to each character and are encouraged through the development of relationships which lead to a satisfyingly positive ending. ( ) 12 year old Grady and his mom feel like they've finally hit a bit a good luck when they land a job looking after old Charlie Fernwald.
