-I guess I don't, not always anyway. This is a frustrating but delightful way to learn about logic, philosophy, thought, and how we make mistakes. ( )

Another book in my campaign to step outside of my skull and have a good rummage around inside it.

This book catches you out in errors of thought that you didn't know you were making - a fantastic gift to anyone who wants to get better at thinking straight. Be warned, this can be painful. But by the end I was willing myself to find more faults with my thinking.

Doubting yourself can be useful, if you can use this to make a decision now that you can't actually make that decision just yet and furthermore if you can decide now what additional information you need to, in the future, decide when a decision might be made as well as deciding what that decision is when said information is to hand.

So to speak. ( )

Rather than challenging your philosophy, the book points out what's inconsistent within itself or with reality. An easy read, with each chapter being presented as a short introduction to the topic, followed by a questionnaire, scoring legend, and an explanation of your results.

The philosophy is well argumented given the lightness of the book, even though it occasionally suffers from miscellaneous overlooks (one example is trying to determine if your ethical principles apply the same to family or strangers, where the book does not distinguish between family you don't choose (relatives) and family you do (your children)). A fun and interactive book... be careful and purposeful as you play the mind games presented here. One reviewer observes that the point of this book is that there are no right answers. I'd say that the point of the book is indeed not so much about "right answers" as about right thinking. The fact that the book is designed to help one explore the reasonableness and logic of ones thinking on a variety of subjects, it is about having "right" answers perhaps not in the sense of metaphysics, but certainly in how well thought out your thoughts indeed are. Are you consistent in what you think? is the question this book helps you begin to answer. ( )

This is a very lovely book if you have strong views on philosophy, politics, art or religion. It doesn't matter if you are atheist or religious, have liberal views or a strong moral view of the world. To enjoy this book fully you should start with the first test and not read in advance any explanations or look for the 'right' answer in advance. There are no right answers is in fact one of the messages of this book. It was for me a nice confrontation with flaws in my own beliefs, and pointed out some inconsistencies in them. A tip: don't write your answers in the book itself, it is an excellent book to share with your friends and compare notes afterwards. ( )
