A Custom-Fit Crime is the fourth book in the A Magical Dressmaking Mystery series by Melissa Bourbon.

When Harlow's grandmother, Meemaw, passed away she moved back to Bliss, TX. She opened the dress shop she has always dreamed of having. All the Cassidy women have their own magical niche.

It's regular whirlwind in Bliss. Harlow's mother will be getting married soon to Sheriff Hoss McClaine and there are dresses to be finished. Also D Magazine wants to do a story on two of Dallas' well known designers, Michel Ralph Beaulieu and Midori and include Harlow as a up and comer in the design world. Then to add to these concerns, Orphie, who Harlow had worked with in NYC, shows with a design book from Maximilian, where they used to work.

Before they can get started with the photo shoot, Beaulieu is found dead in the bathroom of Harlow's dress shop. It is rumored that Beaulieu had been "borrowing" other designers works and had been blackmailing other designers.

In fact Harlow is a suspect and must start sleuthing to save her name and to make sure that her mothers wedding goes off as planned.

Most of the characters from the previous books are back to support Harlow. Meemaw, who is a real joy is back to guide Harlow and in fact makes a quick appearance.

This is a fun series with interesting and believable characters. Travel on down to Bliss Texas, y'all and visit with the friendly folks there.

Looking forward to the next book. ( )

First of all, I love this series. It ticks all the boxes for me: good mysteries, great characters, great setting, humour, quirkiness, ghosts and charms. I love the ever evolving backstory of Bliss.

What to say about this book in particular? I'm not sure. It was a good story, with really clever plot-lines (although the primary plot line murderer was the one I suspected). I loved where Harlow and Will are heading and I really get a kick out of his daughter. But for some reason, this book just felt flatter than the others and I can't really say why.

Did I enjoy reading it? Yes, though not as much as the previous ones. Would I recommend this series? Have done and will continue to rave about it. But I wouldn't recommend that anyone read this book as an introduction to the series (although if they do, they can look forward to all the rest of the books being even better!

On the plus side, the next one comes out 9 months from now, instead of a year. Woot! ( )

In Bourbon’s mystery novel, after a year of hard work Harlow Jane Cassidy’s dream is finally about to come true. Her designs will be featured in a major magazine spread and she is wrapping up the final arrangements for her mother’s upcoming nuptials. As if that’s not enough to keep her occupied, her friend Orphie is visiting and she is doing her level best to prevent another designer from stealing her ideas! Harlow appears to be pulling it all off until one of the designers is found dead in her bathroom. When her friend falls victim to poisoning, Harlow is forced to take the bull by the horn and initiate her own investigation while working to keep her mother’s wedding on track.

Harlow is a charming amateur sleuth in a story that blends mystery, magic and sewing all in one. A wonderful addition to the A Magical Dressmaking Mystery series. ( )

The wedding between Harlow's mom and the sheriff finally seems imminent. In the meantime, an old friend of Harlow's arrives in Bliss, just as two other fashion designers and magazine reporter arrive for a spread on them for D magazine. One of the designers is a target of foul play, and Harlow must utilize her Cassidy ways to help find another killer. It's nice to revisit a series and catch up with secondary characters that are so well done as in this series. The mystery may have gotten a bit long in tooth, coupled with wedding arrangements, but all in all, another fun read about the folks that inhabit Bliss. ( )
