Great suspense book with a touch of paranormal and a dash of romance. Detective Jack Sullivan has been looking for a serial killer for years since he killed his sister. The killer has now set him up when he thinks Jack getting to close and captures him. Three days later Ashley Price, who is an artist who is struggling with depression over something tragic that happened which resulted in her father keeping her daughter, has a horrible vision that she paints as she's having it. When the vision has passed and she looks at what she painted she realizes its on her property and its a man that has been buried alive. She rushes to the location and manages to dig him up and he's still alive. That man was Jack. From here Jack believes that Ashley has to be working with the killer, especially when he finds other paintings she has done, all of murdered victims. Almost 90% of this book is the mystery on figuring out who the killer is. The author does a great job of making you really have think on who it could be. Ashley and Jack's romance was slow to come but she was so emotionally unstable from her previous trauma even though she was working hard to overcome it so she could get her daughter back and Jack was just one tracked mind on getting the killer at the expenses of everything. I really enjoyed this book and it looks like she is currently writing the Captain Bing's story. I will defiantly be buying that when it comes out. Suspenseful and freaky! A serial killer is living in Broslin, and apparently has been for some time. Jack has been chasing this killer for years, and almost gets himself killed when the killer traps him. Ashley, a professional artist and single mother, is recovering from a black depression and receiving psychic visions of violent death, that she feels compelled to paint. When she paints Jack, she realizes that he's still alive, and sets out to rescue him. Now, all of this happens in the first couple of pages, so you can imagine the level of terror and suspense in the rest of the book! The author managed to keep me guessing about the killer's identity until he reveals himself! A page-turner! I got this when it was free and at the time I was a little worried because all the reviews were so glowing and not amazon verified purchases. I was greatly relieved to find out this was a solid book I was invested in the story immediately and read it in about 6 hours. I took some breaks but did not want to read anything else. The did figure out the killer as soon as he visited the house. I did not know why. I ended up enjoying the story as it unfolded and there was a good herring in the book that made me question my thought of the murderer. I enjoyed the mystery portion. The romance part not quite as much. It was a little too pat not enough of a relationship build for me. This was a good book a worth a try. While I got it for free I would be ok paying up to 4.99, or so for it. I will read other hooks from this author but I do not have a burning desire to do it today. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

After a near-death experience a year earlier, artist Ashley Price longs for a normal life. She has visions of dead people, which send her into a trance. The only way she can get the images out of her head is to paint them. Due to her mental instability, she’s given her dad custody of her adorable daughter, but she’s determined to get better so she can bring her daughter home. One night, a vision hits and she paints it as usual. But this time, when she breaks free from the trance, she realizes the victim in the painting isn’t dead. He’s still alive, and she recognizes the scenery as part of her property. She goes out looking and finds Jack near death. But Jack isn’t all that grateful to her for saving him. He’s convinced she’s working with the serial killer, and he’ll do anything to prove it.
This is a good mystery, crime-fiction story, and I didn’t figure out who was the killer until late in the book. Both Jack and Ashley have serious baggage and trust issues. There was very little romance between them, at least until maybe ¾ of the book. I couldn’t connect with either of them. Though I understood their motivations behind their actions, their stubbornness and animosity towards one another made it hard for me to root for them.
The time line seemed off from the last book. It’s either been one year, two years, or a few years from the previous one. Kate and Murph, the previous book’s couple, weren’t in this one and they weren’t mentioned either, but Captain Bing played a big role. The local police captain tied the two books together.
Overall, I liked the murder mystery part, but I wish there would’ve been more romance between the H/h.
