Nick Hawke wants his car fast and his girls faster. He blows through them quicker than his muscle car races down the drag strip in Collinsville and he wouldn't have it any other way. He's determined to avoid the devastation he has watched his father endure in the aftermath of his mother's abandonment. He believes there is no room in his life or his heart for a relationship lasting more than one night. He seeks happiness in things that won't let him down--fast cars, adrenaline highs, and one night stands. All of that changes when he unexpectedly runs into an old friend and is introduced to Payton Archer, the first girl he ever wanted for more than a night. There's only one catch--she's completely immune to him and his smooth talking ways.Payton Archer is looking for love--the true, mad, deep kind. She's given up on finding it, at least until she leaves for college because she's certain that is where she'll find the ideal guy to fit into her perfect world. Her summer plans include nothing more than three uneventful months of fun but it turns out to be anything but ordinary when Payton meets Nick Hawke, one of Jesse's old Collinsville friends. She's shocked by her immediate and intense attraction for "Hawke" because nothing about him is on her checklist for the perfect love. Sure, he's hot and sexy but he comes from Collinsville and that is definitely not on her list of prerequisites. Everything about him makes Payton's heart speed. He's exciting and dangerous but his fast car and chance taking aren't what scares Payton the most. It's the way Nick Hawke makes her feel every time he looks at her. Can Payton find the courage to leave the safe, shallow end of love and risk going under completely?Shallow is Book 2 of 2 in the Going Under Series but may be read as a stand alone.… (meer)

This is the second book in the Going Under series. It doesn’t necessarily have to read in order. You do however get a little background on Payton, Claire and Jesse. I really liked Payton in Going Under, so I thought this would be great too. I will tell you it is a little racier than Going Under, and it was fantastic.

Payton is a beautiful, smart girl who comes from a family that seems to have quite a bit of money, but she could care less about it. She cares for her friends and maintains her morals no matter what. I was really impressed that she stuck to her guns about not being ready for a sexual relationship and even lost a boyfriend over it. Payton is snarky, and funny and some of the things she says had me laughing so hard. One things she can do is certainly put you in your place. And she does just that with Nick. She hasn’t had much luck in the boyfriend department, so she doesn’t fall for Nick’s antics that he uses on girls. Well, for long she doesn’t.

Both Payton and Nick come from families that are far from perfect. They are both insecure and they both put up very good fronts. Payton just wants someone to love her and want her. And Nick was far from looking for a serious relationship, till he met Payton. The chemistry between them was…. oh my…. hot, and intense. I really enjoyed watching them grow together. Their relationship was far from easy too. Insert the parents or shall I say parent, girls from his past and Payton’s stubbornness, they certainly don’t help these two at all. Watching them go through the up and downs was emotional and sometimes heart breaking, and you can’t help but to root for them.

We were also introduced to Nick’s sister Dallas and a friend of Payton’s, Dane. which was a pleasant addition to the story. I am hoping there will be more about them, maybe in another book. So I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Shallow is a beautiful, romantic love story of two young people looking for something in each other. The ending was amazing, and left me wanting more. And the epilogue does tie Going Under and Shallow beautifully. Georgia Cates did a wonderful job, the writing just sucks you right into their story and doesn’t let go. I was very please with this and would definitely recommend reading this series. ( )

Shallow (Going Under #2) by Georgia Cates

Shallow is the second book in the Going Under series by Georgia Cates, the plot is a fun and enjoyable read. This is the first book I’ve read by Georgia Cates so of course I know have to go read Going Under soon. I really enjoyed Georgia’s writings and the story flows well I laughed out loud a few times and loved the Payton smart mouth and quick comebacks.

Payton Archer is one tough girl, says what she thinks and thinks she knows what she wants for her life. Then she meets Nick Hawke who is tall dark and handsome and did I mention the bad boy type. He is swoon worthy. Nick is instantly attracted to Payton and knows he wants her. Of course Payton knows Nick is a player and hates the fact that she is so attracted to him. Nick doesn’t give up though and Payton and Nick start a great romance. Things are not that easy though, many secrets are revealed, Nick’s missing mother, crazy ex-girlfriends who want Nick for herself. Nothing is easy for these two. In saying that this is a great read, you laugh, you may shed a tear and you fall in love with both Payton and Nick and want a happy ever after ending.

I have rated Shallow a 4 star rating and suggest if your reading my review you go look up Georgia Cates and start reading this series it’s worth every cent. I am a huge fan and cannot wait to read all her novels.

The second book in Georgia Cates’ Going Under series, Shallow, was a nice, simple read. What it lacked in depth, it made up for in mysterious circumstances between Payton’s family and Nick’s. I enjoyed Payton as a character. She’s smart, witty and has a sharp tongue and she’s not afraid to use it. Nick, on the other hand, was your average player who meets his match.

The highlight of the story for me was the storyline of Nick’s mysterious mother. I enjoyed this slowly coming undone until we finally figure out what the whole picture is. The anticipation built and I had hopes that it didn’t go the way I thought it might (it didn’t). Moreover, I was glad to be proven wrong on my theories for the plot. While the romance didn’t inspire too much, the mysterious plot was enough to keep my reading until the very end.

While the story is very simple, breezy read, it still was an entertaining read. Plenty of conflict throughout the story, haunting pasts, Shallow does make for a good afternoon read. ( )

started great, fast pace read but after 80% passed, the climax seemed written down in a rush to end it as soon as possible. The hero also turned out way too sappy & hopeless to even strive a thing that actually wasn't that hard to resolve. I gotta say I lose interest & just skimming after the hero & heroine decided to leave things unsolved. In the end it all ended so predictable and I found nothing to grasp me too much to love this book (re-read) in the future. SO I gave it 2 stars. ( )
