Deze bespreking was geschreven voorLibraryThing lid Weggevers. I got to page 57 of this book and had to stop. I just didn't care about the characters to continue on with the book. It didn't pull me even though the premise of superpowers was interesting... the characters fell flat. The book is second in series and is about Lola's (Protagonist of X0)son Zane. Again like X0, Y1 deals with yet another supernatural ability by which Zane can change forms. The isn't too fast paced or a dead rubber. It contains adequate unpredictable twists that the writer has carefully thrown in when the plot line gets too dry. The central theme of this book according to me is "ODDITY". Weaving the concept of oddity with the world of drugs and medicine was a really smart move by the writer. What I Really Liked About the book 1. It is a rather positive book in sense that when things go all awry something positive happens 2. The detailed description of I-Kiribati 3. Dr.Hulson senior's character sketch What I didn't exactly enjoy : 1. The description of Y1, the organization and its purpose - It kind of confused me. 2. Y1 turned out to more like an online forum rather then doing some action unlike X0. Made me think a bit! Overall the book is good read. But one needs to "concentrate". You can't really turn page after page easily. You need that time for things to sink in and understand, especially when the writer describes about Y1. Definitely not the "best" work by Sherrie nevertheless I'd surely recommend this book. After all X0 was good & her 4th book in the serious which I beta read was simply amazing! Deze bespreking was geschreven voorLibraryThing lid Weggevers. This book has a fantastic format. The e-book version I read had hyperlinks to pertinent facts to the storyline. Maps, cultural info, and scientific facts were only a click away. Sometimes the links led to pretty amazing videos. Really loved the way the author presented this story about intolerance, pharmaceutical overreach, and greed. It never felt preachy or dry. The fantastical elements were believable and enviable :0) I would love to be able to morph into someone else every once in a while. This was my first novel by Sherrie Cronin but it won't be my last. This is the second book in a series about the 'gifted' Zeitman family. All of the books can reportedly stand alone and this one did very well in that respect. I am planning to read z2 in the very near future. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
Onderdeel van de reeks(en)46. Ascending (2)
Zane swore as a child to protect all the odd people of the world, studying chameleons and muscle groups to teach himself to alter his own appearance. No longer a young boy too smart and too different to fit in, Zane starts his first job at a pharmaceutical company where he uncovers layers of corporate secrets that hide surprisingly vile plans. Once he is sent on a sales trip to the South Pacific, it becomes clear that there are those who would kill to protect the mysteries that the company has worked so hard to keep hidden. Charged with murder and hunted by an unsavory boot camp manager, he finds himself sailing to remote islands with a shadowy group known as y1. As a young gay man sometimes forced to hide his true nature at home, Zane discovers love with a young man of the Pacific whose past and whose talents are every bit as unusual. Fantasy, reality and speculative science come together as Zane must find a way to use all of his unique abilities to resist turning from a murder suspect into a murder victim. He still plans to keep his childhood promise, if he can only live long enough to do so. y1 is part of 46. Ascending, a collection of loosely interrelated novels about five very different family members who each discover that they can do the extraordinary when they must. The books are designed to be read as stand-alone stories or in any order as they overlap in time and build upon each other in all directions. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
