This is a beautiful book about friendship and acceptance. It follows a family with two daughters. One daughter, Leah, has Autism. Throughout the book, Logan, Leah's sister, learns more about Leah and the way she sees the world. It goes through different challenged Leah faces and how others should respond. The language is appropriate for young readers and is easy for them to understand. Because Logan is young, the parents explain Leah's situation in a way that Logan would better understand, therefore readers around Logan's age would also understand. The book is written in the third person which is fine but it would've been interesting to have a book written in Leah's perspective. I think by showing the world and story through her eyes would really benefit readers on learning and understanding what life is like for her. This book is simply telling readers to treat others the way you would like to be treated. Logan's friend Abby got upset when Leah would frequently leave when all three of them were playing but by the end of the book, Abby learns that she may have to adapt her way of playing and treat others with kindness. I think this book is very important to read to children because it teaches them a valuable lesson on people with disabilities and shows them how to interact with people who may be different from them. this book tells the story of difficulties a child with autism might experience and how a sibling may be effected. The book is very basic in that it there is conflict due to problems with autism symptoms, and the sister has to learn kindness, and acceptance. The bullying by the girl's friend did not make me happy, but more likely that happens than does not. ( )

Logan invited her friend Abby over for a play date, and as they were about to begin a board game Logan invites her sister Leah to join. Leah plays a little differently which upsets Abby, and Logan and Abby get in an argument. Logan doesn't understand why her sister plays that way, but appreciates her company anyway! Later that night, Logan's parents explain that Leah is on the spectrum. The next day, Leah receives an award in the newspaper for her artwork. Abby comes by later that day to congratulate Leah and apologize for the other day. Abby also compliments Logan for showing Leah how to be a better friend.

I thought this book did a great job explaining what Autism looks like and what being on the spectrum means. I like how the author displayed Leah's talents as well as her challenges. I think this kind of story is common of siblings with Autism, and I think those children would appreciate seeing their story represented too. Leah's Voice shows how people don't always understand Autism at first, but by exhibiting love and patience we can be an example of understanding and kindness for others. ( )

Leah's voice is a picture book based on a true story about two sisters, Logan and Leah. This book focuses on the difficulties children face when interacting with someone who has a disability. It teaches children about respect, kindness, and seeing things through someone else's perspective. One day Logan's friend Abby came over for a play date and was frustrated when Leah would not play the game how she wanted because she didn't understand that Leah had autism. However, towards the end of the story when she knew about Leah's disability she was much kinder to Leah and learned what it looked like to show kindness to others. In another part of the story Leah and Logan went to the movies with their mother. On their way to the movie Leah started screaming and crying, so they had to skip the movies and go home. This made Logan so upset, but her father explained that instead of blaming Leah and trying to "fix'" her, she should, "... try to see the world a little like Leah does." This book would be a great teaching tool to teach students about point of view and perspective. Teachers could have their students write a story or respond to a prompt or scenario from a character's point of view. For example, how would you feel if you were Leah and someone treated you the way Abby treated Leah during the play date?

Leah’s Voice is a picture book that’s shows the reader about a sibling understanding of her sister that’s on the spectrum. The book does a good job at showing the girl point of view and how she came to better u sees tans her sister. I enjoyed reading and the illustrations. The book is short and it could have been longer, however the length is justified by the artwork. You really get a feel for what going on with the illustrations. This book is good to show to kindergartens to 2nd grade and any child that has or know someone who is on the spectrum. The book does a good job showing the sibling connection and how she views her sister and how others see her sister. ( )
