This is the second book in the Daimones Trilogy. In the second book we follow Dan and his family who and others who had learned that a race called the Morai are responsible for the mass human death tolls seemingly to save us from ourselves...a third time... This has happened two other times in human history that we don't remember as we were stopped from mass extinction due to our own folly and destructive nature as told to us by the Morai. The Kritas are another race who are here as well fighting with rebel humans against the Morai. Dan is changed into a new type of human that will live a long time along with others called the Selected. Chosen to lead the new human race.
The plot twists and revealing of more information the more you read keeps the book very interesting from start to finish as another book that you must keep reading to see what is next. As stated in my review of the first, a great book for any SciFi lovers. ( )

i was lucky enough to receive a copy of this book for an honest review. i read the first one in the series before this so i got a background of what occurred. both were good reads. the aliens have decided we humans are on the road to destroying ourselves (how true!!) and they come to save us. not only one set of aliens, but two different races. the only gripe i have is the author changed the name of 'earth' to 'eridu' which i could just not wrap my head around. i kept reading 'earth'. could not call our planet by another name. i liked the series enough to purchase the next book. I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.

The story is one that pulls you in from the beginning and doesn't let go of you until you are done. The characters are well developed and you see growth of the character. The storyline is flawless and flows perfectly. I am not a huge fan of post-apocalyptic novels but I will be reading the next installment in this series and probably rereading the entire series. ( )

Massino Marino’s Once Humans: Vol. 2 of the Daimones Trilogy continues the saga of Dan Amenta and his family after the arrival of the Moirai on earth has triggered the culling of the human race and the resurrection of humanity. Dan has been ‘selected’ by the Moirai and given special powers. New communities of the ‘selected’ have cropped up, the largest being that led by Dan. Humanity seems on its way to a new beginning, until raids by the ‘spared,’ humans not selected for transformation, signal the presence of a third entity, the Kritas, a race at war with the Moirai.
Dan, with his Moirai allies must deal with the incursions, a task complicated by the possibility of traitors within the Moirai ranks, and doubts about the real intentions of the Moirai.
Marino, in this second volume, has found his stride. The suspense that began to build in the first book rises to heights that will make your blood race. At the same time, he explores what it really means to be human, even when given superhuman capabilities.
One has to wonder whether Marino will be able to maintain the same level of wonder in the final book of the trilogy – but, I predict that he will not only maintain, but surpass.
Once Humans is easily four stars, and for all the right reasons. ( )
