Shaw is giving us this offering, dealing with his attitude towards family life as of 1897. A conventional dentist gains his first customer when he is on the verge of eition. the patient reveals that she is the child of a very feminist mother, who has just reurned to england after an absence of eighteen years with her three children. Before the play is over, the children have conronted their parents and all six of themare resolved to go on in a more conentional fashion because "You never can tell" it might work out to everyone's eentual advantage. i have seen the play performed and it worked quite well. The play was first perormed in 1897. ( )
