MASSIVE tear jerker.

I get why some ppl didn't like it but really...you gotta know how easy it is to make a stupid decision when you're a hormonal teenager...And then be stuck.

I cried. There were.tons of tears.

This is the first book I’ve read by Penelope Ward; I know I should have read Gemini first, but it said it was a standalone so I figured I would be okay. I do now know a bit about the characters from Gemini, but I think it was well worth it. I am so glad I read Jake Undone; the book was amazing!

Nina moves in with three roommates in Brooklyn for nursing school. She has a few phobias that make living in a big city, and life in general, pretty difficult. That is until Jake, her pierced, tattooed, hot engineer of roommate, makes a bet with Nina. He’ll be her math tutor, but for every grade less than an A Nina has to face one of her phobias.

As Jake and Nina spend time together and Jake helps Nina with her phobias, Nina comes to find that Jake’s scary (albeit sexy) exterior doesn’t extend to who he is on the inside. And Nina’s feelings for Jake grow stronger every day. But with Jake leaving for Boston every weekend she knows he must be hiding something from her. Just when Jake and Nina decide to things a chance, Jake’s secret comes out and Nina’s not sure it’s something she can handle.

The chemistry between Jake and Nina is incredible. And Jake has to be one of the hottest book characters of all time. That bad boy exterior is irresistible. Nina’s fears and insecurities concerning Jake are so real, and while reading you can’t help but feel her pain too. And halfway through the book we switch to Jake’s perspective, and you feel all his pain and insecurities too. We also get good and happy times through Jake’s perspective as well.

Jake Undone was an emotional rollercoaster, but it was well worth it. It was so close to perfect. The only thing I would say that pulled me out of the story (other than annoying people who understand that a book in hand means I don’t want to be bothered) where the dialogue could have used more contractions. People just don’t say “I am” very often unless they are trying to emphasize something. Otherwise, it was a pretty perfect story.

Now, I should probably read the first book, Gemini, and then My Skylar when it comes out in July. But for now I’m a bit addicted to Jake.

*Disclaimer: Some of the sex scenes were a bit too much for my taste. But the book was well worth some of what I found to be out of alignment with my taste. This book definitely was isn’t meant as YA. Mature readers only 

I Picked Up This Book Because: I’ve only read joint books by Ms Ward but I’ve always enjoyed them so I gave stab at a solo book and I’m so glad I did.

The Characters:

Nina Kennedy:On the brink of letting her fears ruin the world but really stronger than she ever knew she could be.
Jake Green:Pseudo bad boy, not so secret geek with a heart of gold
Ryan, Tarrah:roomates

The Story:

I got an offer to read this on the cheap along with the follow up for free (author promotion) so I took it. I’m glad I did. I’ve been experiencing a bit of a book slump in the last few months and I think this book as put me well on the road to recovery.

So Nina and Jake. The chemistry was immediate but it was drawn out and a friendship really grew before. I love that. I love that Jake helps Nina conquer her fears… and math. I love that what is most important to them is that the other is happy. As often is the challenge in romance novels communication or the lack there of proved to be their downfall. Some crazy mistakes, suffering and an outright lie later, Nina and Jake make their way back to each other and even though everything isn’t sunshine and roses I feel like they are dedicated enough to each others happiness to make things work.

This story is about facing your fears head on and learning how to deal with them.



Nina leaves home for nursing school and moves into an apartment with her guy friend and two others. When she meets her roommates she is blown away by one in particular, Jake Green. He is everything she steers clear from... a Bad Boy... Hot and Tattooed with a Man whore persona. When Nina struggles with math she has to turn to her dark, mysterious engineer room mate. He begins tutoring her in exchange for taking her to face her fears. Together they embark on a journey of a beautiful romance with tons of emotion.



What makes this book so special is the fact that Nina and Jake show each other how to live again. They share intimate talks and texts. They open up to one another and share their deepest secrets. I loved their romance. It definitely pulls on your heartstrings.



Two people, both vulnerable, come together to share the most intimate parts of their lives.



The Author did a great job with the writing. There was just enough details to make you feel all the things the characters felt. The twists in this story keep you guessing and the storyline sucks you in.
