It's a marriage of two classics: The Nutcracker and Advent calendars. Front cover flaps part like stage curtains to reveal 24 full-color illustrated story-books. Books are numbered, and like the peekaboo windows of Advent calendars, they're meant to be opened and read, one per day, from December 1 until Christmas Eve. From a first glimpse of the Stahlbaum house (#1) to the duel between the Nutcracker and the Mouse King (#14) to the magical Sugar Plum Fairy (#20), the board books retell the complete story. In addition, with their gold-thread loops and four different trim sizes, the jewel-like books are designed to be hung on the Christmas tree year after year Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |

The calendar as a whole is illustrated by Nan Brooks and the story is retold by Mary Packard in *miniature, 4 page (not including the covers), board books telling the story of The Nutcracker.
Unlike the majority of calendars, which are designed to be suspended from a hole in the back by a cord to the wall, this calendar (mimicing a theatre scene) is designed to be displayed on a surface with the gatefolds opened out, forming a primative stand. The 24 individual books, however, are designed to be suspended like tree decorations once removed from the main advent calendar.
(*only 16 of the 24 books are true miniatures. 7 are double size, and one four times the size) ( )
