This is a major tone shift from Brubaker's take on the character, sure. But, almost any story would be a huge change following one of the most classic runs in Marvel history. Remander puts Steve in a pulpy, The Island of Doctor Moreau tinged dimension run by Armin Zola. It's mostly fun, and it's actually a refreshing change of pace from the more serious style of Brubakers. If you want a pulpy, sci-fi, Captain America with a bit of heart and a whole lot of strange, then this series is for you. ( ) I haven't read much Captain America stand alone comics. I did enjoy this one. We get to see another side of Steve Rogers with some flashbacks to his childhood and how those struggles shaped him into the man he is. Steve also becomes a father and raises his son in some harsh lands that is controlled by Zola. The book description sounded weird but I'm glad I read this book. It's a solid read and it really showed me what kind of person Steve Rogers is. Can't say I'm a huge Captain America fan but my son suggested this one (out of a pile of other comics he was reading). It was fun. I love the retro title and I usually like superhero stuff set on other planets/dimensions so this paid off. I really only have 2 problems with it. Captain America is all but invincible and they had all these great alternate covers in the back but the one they chose was crappy compared to those. So if you can suspend your disbelief even further than you normally do with superhero comics then try it out. Looking forward to Volume 2. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
