To tell you just how quickly this series gets under your skin.... I lucked into finding "AMONG THE SHROUDED". Within ONE chapter I knew I was hooked, and instantly ordered this book and it's follow up "BEYOND THE SHROUDED", and pre-ordered book 3 ("BEYOND THE SANCTIFIED"). I read both books 1&2 back to back in just under three hours. Romance, mystery, good vs evil, paranormal.... You name it this book has it. A young woman named Mia has always had the ability to read peoples auras. To her.... Since childhood either someone has a light/good aura, or a dark/bad aura. As a cop she uses this gift daily and it's NEVER failed her. Imagine her shock when she suddenly sees someone in the lineup with NO aura? Turns out Thomas (lineup guy who was a plant by the cops) is also gifted. They soon learn there's an even bigger coincidence... They share the exact same birthday and birth date. Worse.... the same day she sees Thomas and his mysterious absence of aura she meets the new police Commissioner. Fine and dandy except he has the darkest aura she's ever seen in her entire life! Worse.... the two people she trusts most in this world, and who are aware of her gift.... Her father the police chief, and her partner BOTH think seeing his dark aura is just a glitch. Neither believe he's as evil as she believes. Between not seeing an aura around Thomas and now this, she begins to doubt herself and her own lifelong abilities. This book is essentially how Mia and Thomas meet and slowly come not only to trust one another, but forge a deeper relationship. Through this process they discover there's a very old prophecy... There will be 7 psychics of light.... Like themselves fighting for good.... And 7 fighting for darkness. It's a race against time at this point. Little do they know that darkness has already entered their lives... It's a race to see if they can put the pieces together on this journey. Not only to find the remaining light psychics.... But to save souls even closer to home. I promise you WON'T regret reading this book. Be warned... You too may end up instantly buying the second in this series and enjoy every minute. Suspense, action, danger, humor, romance, mystic powers, beautifully-drawn characters, and a tightly crafted plot. Not to mention touches of horror that are all the more horrible because they are real. Among the Shrouded has it all. Amalie Jahn is a brilliant writer. Exclamation point. ( )

Great Book!!! This is a wonderful book. Amalie Jahn did an excellent job in putting together a well thought out plot with very likable characters. The story is so well told that it brought me into the pages and I felt that I was part of the script. I was overwhelmed with a mixture of strong feelings. I felt excitement, anger, resentment and utter shock at the horrible, disturbing issue of human trafficking.
The plot was quite riveting and I was glued to the pages. I loved the soft touch of supernatural. The author used the aura of a person through out the story and though not trying to make it a major theme it becomes quite meaningful. The most important issue of the book is centered on the subject of foreign women brought to the States to find a better life but instead their dreams are crashed into dust. That was gut retching.
I am now a fan of Amalie Jahn. I loved her first book The Clay Lion and I thought she could not do any better than that. Boy was I wrong. The second book is absolutely fantastic. I would recommend it to anyone who loves a suspenseful and compelling story filled with excitement and provocation. ( )

Among the Shrouded isn't your average paranormal story. Amalie pulled me in and weaved a story so vivid and real I felt like I was there. Beautifully written, I was hooked from the first page to the last. ( )
