Barbarossa’s Bitch by Angelia Sparrow and Naomi Brooks opens with Dylan, a scrawny computer programmer struggling to survive eight years after a global disaster in which most of the world’s population died in their sleep one night. Dylan is focused on hiding his homosexuality, which gets
him repeatedly kicked out of settlements because everyone now puts procreation first in order to rebuild the human race. Finally, Dylan gets captured by one of the wildpacks, or motorcycle gangs, that patrol the wilderness between settlements and finds himself the new sex toy of Lord Barbarossa. However, their D/s relationship soon goes much deeper than mere sex.
This is a strikingly original, futuristic love story. Fans of futuristic dystopias, slave fiction, and BDSM may especially want to read it. Some readers may dislike the decision to show many scenes from Dylan’s life out of chronological sequence, but I didn’t find it to be a problem. The big plot points do happen in sequence, and the lesser scenes can be figured out quickly. Highly recommended!
