Jaymee's boyfriend is kidnapped and mystery abounds with Dixie mafia, old murders, etc. entertaining ( ) With derechos and wildfires threatening the small town of Delta Crossroads, Stacy Green’s Ashes and Bone creates a rather scary view of the American South. It’s a place as beautiful and volatile as its history, with dark secrets behind the light and love of genuinely pleasing characters. And the novel’s an enjoyable blend of suspenseful romance and small-town mystery. Third in the Delta Crossroads series, this novel welcomes readers back with familiar characters, yet stands alone with no overwhelming sense of missed storylines. History is an ever-present part of landscape and people, and presents itself beautifully through artifacts, real and fake, as Jaymee and Dani work on their renovated homes, keeping wildfire at bay while the fires of Southern beauty burn strong. But Jaymee’s betrothed, a reporter, has disappeared in a storm, and now the race is on to find what he was investigating and why, and to rescue him. Will the wildfire’s “red dragon” catch Nick before his beloved? Will history’s more recent secrets overwhelm the present or the past? And can Nick, his first-person story pleasingly adding that sense of urgent need, still be found in time and saved? From beautiful homes to original slave cabins, from Civil War bullets to Civil Rights movement and beyond, this novel pleasingly combines well-drawn history with present danger, thoughtful issues with appropriate romance, and a great cast of flawed and fascinating characters, to create a genuinely enjoyable read, fast-flowing, exciting, and fun. Disclosure: I was given a free ecopy by the author and I offer my honest review, with my apologies for taking so long. Stacy Green has a talent for transporting the reader into the setting of the story, where you feel like you're in the deep south in the midst of a mystery where lives hang in the balance. Ashes & Bone is the exciting finale of the Delta Crossroads series. I really enjoyed getting to hear the story from the perspective of all of the main characters of the previous novels: Dani, Cage, Jaymee & Nick. In Ashes & Bone, a secretive story Nick is working on may be the reason behind his mysterious disappearance. What project was he last engaged in? Who has something to lose if the story comes out? In this quiet town where everyone knows their neighbors secrets, someone has a secret to hide that might just be worth killing for. Can Cage and the police force unravel the cryptic information found in Nick's car? Will Dani and Jamie get themselves in over their heads trying to figure out the puzzle in time to save Nick's life? Is the secret that is being hidden enough to bring down the whole town? Is the dangerous southern Dixie Mafia involved? Who will live until the end of the novel? A great novel and adventure for readers who love a good mystery! geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
