As a solicitor seeking justice for victims of violence, Tobias Lynsted must maintain control at all times while working in the seedy underworld of London's East End. The darkness of his world creates a need for the intimacy and release he can only find in the forbidden pleasure of submission. The kind of pleasure where a powerful man has the freedom to let go of his control for a few sweet moments of oblivion. But when a blackmail scheme forces him to marry, the last thing he expects in a wife is a woman who will satisfy the darker side of his nature. Lady Jane Grisham has no desire to marry, but choosing marriage over a life of destitution is an easy choice to make. Although Jane knows love is for the foolish, Tobias awakens her most wicked and darkest of desires. This one is kind of hard for me to pin down. I suppose I liked the main characters. And it held my interest. I'm not sure the psychology for the healing process holds water, but, different things do work for different people, so it's possible I guess. Having the Domme be new at the position and the sub be interested, but also kind of resistant, made for an interesting dynamic. Most of the drama comes from the characters keeping secrets, which I'm not a huge fan of, but it didn't have me pulling out my hair or anything. So overall good. ( )

HIS MISTRESS by Monica Burns is an exciting Historical Erotica Romance set in 1892 London. Volume 1 in "The Self-Made Man series", and what a beginning. A quick read to me. I read it in one setting.
A lady with dark desires, meets a gentleman with a tortured past who also enjoys dark desires. A marriage of convenience and blackmail is just the beginning in this tale of submission, sensuality, bondage, dominance, and the power of love to heal old wounds.
Meet, Tobias Lynsted, a solicitor seeking justice for victims of violence in the underworld of East End, London. Through, blackmail, Tobias meets the woman of his darkest fantasies, he just doesn't know it yet. And Lady Jane Grisham, a lady with dark secrets, who chooses marriage over a life of destitution, meets the man of her darkest dreams.
Together, they form a bond, that is so much more than sex, and submission.
Filled with hot sex, BDSM, domination, secrets, regrets, deceit, lies, and finally love and romance. It's not just about sex and domination, as Tobias, and Jane, learn....when the heart gets involved it's all about coming to grips with one's past, letting on and finding your HEA. Loved it!!
Ms. Burns writes with finesse, passion, emotion, and her sex scenes are well written, with taste and emotion. I look forward to the next grand adventure in the "Self- Made Man" series. If you enjoy Erotica, romance, and finding a great tale to curl up to, than, HIS MISTRESS, is just the book. Received for an honest review.
