The Bhagavad-gita is the main source-book on yoga and a concise summary of India's Vedic wisdom. Yet remarkably, the setting for this classic of spiritual literature is an ancient Indian battlefield. At the last moment, the great warrior Arjuna begins to wonder about the real meaning of his life. In the Bhagavadgita, Lord Krsna brings His disciple from perplexity to spiritual enlightenment. Bhagavad-gita As It Is is the largest-selling, most widely used edition of the Gita in the world. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |

On the cover, it claims to be "[a] startling challenge to the modern scientific theory of the origin of life and the universe" but in reality is a feeble challenge to various straw men that his Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada creates from what his disciples and students say are scientific claims, makes his own irrational claims that he does not attempt to prove, and calls Darwin, scientists, and atheists "rascals" (pp.48,50,90, respectively) and scientists "thieves" (p.15).
His biggest claim is that man cannot create life in the lab, despite their claims, and that life can only be created by reproduction or by God, who is alive. So who created God? They do not say.
As propaganda for Krishna Consciousness, this book is a failure.
Having said all that, there is one interesting, useful thing contained in this book: a guide to the pronunciation of Sanskrit, for which I give the book its whole star. If it were not for this, it would have half a star. ( )
