Rose has recently lost her father. She travels to Ypres ( pronounced EE-PRAY) in Belgium/France with her Grandfather from England, to pay their respects to WW1 graves of relatives. While in cemetery, Rose reads the tombstone of the youngest soldier killed in WW1 who died when he was just 14 ( Lied about age when signed up) After thinking about this boy the same age as herself, strange things start to happen - a little black dog keeps following her around and she hears and see soldiers and Belgian buildings and people who don't seem real. One night, she hears soldiers singing and marching and goes back in time to the Great War where she meets Valentine Joe. Can she convince him to turn himself in as being too young and change history?
This is a short, sweret semi-romance about an idealistic girl who has experienced trauma (Father's death) and she needs to learn the harsh lessons of life. ( )

A brilliant timeslip novel set mainly during the first war. Poignant and yet uplifting at the same time. A very welcome addition to the books about the war. ( )
