A story of a boy who's got to deal with war. After his brother leaving for the war and not longer after his father, the character has to cope with multiple aspects of the war. This book shows an aspect of World War 2 not many have seen. James puts you in the shoes of a young American child who is yet to realize what is exactly happening outside of his country. A great narrative backed by even greater minimalistic artwork that is utterly satisfying. ( )

This books is about war from a ten year old boy's perspective. Both his dad and brother got selected to go to war and he was left to look after his mom. He tells all of the crazy things he had to do and also gives insight on what he had to learn in school. I think this was a very good read, it was short and simple, which is easy for young kids to grasp while also still allowing the message to be understood. I think this biography shows wars point of view from the innocence of a child and does a really good job of showing what he went through. ( )

This autobiography tells the story of a boy during WWII.His brother goes off to war and he is left at home. Then his dad soon leaves joining the army. It does not have a very interesting story line but if some kids are interested in history, this is a great book for them. Some kids may lose focus quickly if history is not interesting to them. ( )

In this biography it is all about a young American boy who is about 10 years old. He is left at home with his mother while his older brother and farther go off to war. The biography is told from his perspective. The young boy is telling his story of how he feels lonely and confused at times because everyone around him keeps talking about the war. The young boy does not fully understand what to think about the war or why his farther and brother have to go. The young boy can be very creative with some of the things he does to help out with the war. In the end the war is over and done with and America has won. The young boy now is reuinted with his family and you can sense that he is feeling lots of excitement. ( )

A little boy, Sidney, explains what it is like to have his brother and father away at war. He describes to precautions everyone has to take: light out at night, rationing gas and watching for enemies. When Sidney's father went away, his family was able to take a trip to visit him, in Florida. There Christmas was spent on the beach visiting his father. Months later people in the town were excited and announcing that the war was over. For Sidney, he knew war was over when he saw his brother and father come home. I recommend this book for k-3, the author does a very good job making the content appropriate for younger ages. This book would be perfect read for any child with family members away at war. This book could also be tied in to a history lesson, because it references the precautions and changes back during World War 2. This book is about the author's life and his effort's to win the war while his dad is away. ( )
