When he's writing about the history of beer and its role in society he comes across as the most crass shill in the history of marketing. He's like a used car salesman for German beer. Yet when he discusses the technical aspects of brewing, I'm all ears. Mind, I need to learn a LOT more about brewing to appreciate the finer points, but Dornbusch certainly sounds credible. I'll be tempted to read his treatises on alt and koelsch, two styles that I like loads more than helles. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

First created in Munich in 1894, Helles is perhaps the most delicate beer imaginable, and must rely on its incredible subtlety to please the palate. Munich's beer-hall helles, the palest of lagers, has almost no nose or up-front bitterness. Straw blonde and topped by a tall, white crown, it is the quaffing beer of the Bavarians.
