This story of a rule-breaking US Marshal protecting a reporter from a killer is "romantic suspense done right" (Julie Ann Walker).

Journalist Harper Allen still remembers the handsome stranger who saved from disasterâ??and the sizzling one-night stand that followed. Too bad he left without a word or a clue to his real identity . . .

Then, a year later, Harper comes face to face with the man when he's assigned to hide her from a senator's assassin. Galen Kelly hasn't forgotten a single sensual minute of his night with Harper . . . or the fact that she betrayed him. With the FBI also on their trail, he has to pretend he's never met herâ??or risk both their lives. But as danger closes in, Galen may not be able to protect himself from taking the biggest risk of all . . .

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Harper is a political reporter who will do anything for the story, Galen is a strict by the book U.S. Marshal, and both can't keep their hands off of each other. After meeting at a bar Harper and Galen had one night of hot unbridled bedroom passion. Even though it was only one night they both developed feelings, however, due to the requisite Big Misunderstanding, Galen left Harper in the morning without so much as a fare thee well. Now, one year later, Harper has witnessed the murder of a U.S. Senator and Galen is assigned to help protect her as the senator's killer is looking to tie up his loose end, Harper.

Harper really annoyed me; heroines like her are the bane of my existence in romantic suspense. She constantly is trying to ditch her protective detail and withholds key evidence from the FBI. You could say Harper is bold, brash, and courageous or you could say she is pretty stupid. The way she disrespects and disregards Galen in his capacity of a U.S. Marshal is incredibly off putting. Galen is a strong, solid, if not generic hero. Together, they have some steamy bedroom scenes but because of Harper's attitude towards her situation and Galen's role in her protective detail and the Big Misunderstanding still hanging around, they are more often than not at odds.

The suspense story arc keeps the story rolling and sets a nice pace; this is an easy steady read. For a debut book, the writing is wonderfully solid; it's just that the characters slightly veered into caricature land at times. If you're new to romance you're probably going to like this but if you're a veteran you're going to recognize it's been done before and better. Readers of "Something About You" by Julie James will notice the similarities of plot and this story is written in the same vein. This author definitely has potential and I plan on reading the next book in the series to give her another chance. One Night More is good but it simply needed to give me more.

U.S. Marshal Galen Kelly and budding journalist Harper Allen share one scorching hot night of passion without knowing each others’ names. Things are, however, different in the cold light of dawn and Galen and Harper go their separate ways. One year later, Harper witnesses the murder of a senator and the Marshal assigned to lead her protection detail is none other than the man who break her heart. Can Galen and Harper overcome their differences before it is too late?

Although this book has many of my favorite tropes and starts out really well, the author’s tendency to tell rather than show alongside the heroine’s multiple TSTL moments and the hero’s judgmental hypocrisy all serve to ruin an otherwise solid premise.

For a supposedly intelligent woman, Harper is a blithering idiot. Not only does she ditch her security detail even though she is well aware of the threat against her life, but she withholds crucial evidence in a murder investigation.

Galen is the newest entry into my anti-hottie harem. The man may be gorgeous and a “Greek god” in bed, but he has turned jumping to conclusions and making snap judgements into an art form. His treatment of Harper after their reunion is simply unforgivable.

Although Harper and Galen do have some intense chemistry and Baxter knows how to write a sizzling sex scene, the romance is problematic mainly due to the silly misunderstanding trope that could have been avoided with even the shortest of conversations and the fact that Harper is far too forgiving of Galen’s behavior once the truth comes out.

The mystery takes a back seat to Galen and Harpers' repetitive musings and is so underdeveloped as to be virtually non-existent. It is so weak that I’m not classifying this as romantic suspense even though the premise seems to lean in that direction.

All in all, the lack of tension, the weak romance and the irritating characters do not make for an appealing read. It is unlikely that I will be continuing with the series. ( )

After an uncharacteristic one night stand, Harper Allen and Galen Kelly have an amazing connection. But misunderstandings have Galen walking away. After a year in Paris, he's back in the US working for the Marshall service and his first protective detail is none other than Harper.

This is a fantastic read and I recommend it to everyone! The characters are fun, the banter hilarious, and you can just feel the chemistry. Its a great story that keeps you turning the page. I can't wait for the next book in this new series.

One Night More is the first book in the U.S. Marshals series by Mandy Baxter.

Before leaving for his new assignment in Paris, U.S. Marshal Galen Kelly decides to hit a bar with his best friend, Landon. What was supposed to be an easy night turned out to be an unforgettable night after saving a woman from being drugged.
Harper Allen can’t believe how close she came to be drugged, luckily for her, a handsome stranger was paying attention and saved her, and her celebratory night (she just graduated as a journalist) didn’t end in a disaster. After sharing couple of drinks with her savior she decides to do something atypical for her, to have a one-night stand with her rescuer. They don’t share names or any private information and when Harper wakes up the next day the stranger is gone. Harper can’t understand why the man left without even saying goodbye. One year has passed and she can’t stop thinking about him. It’s the same case with Galen. He doesn’t want to think about her, but he can’t forget the scorching night they shared together.
After Galen’s assignment in Paris is over he’s called to the States for a new assignment, the protection of the witness to a high profile murder case.
The last thing Galen was expecting was for the witness to be the woman from the bar, the woman he can’t stop thinking about. He knows if he says to his boss that he knows her he will be taken out of the case, so he pretends he doesn’t know her.
After pining for him for a year Harper can’t believe Galen didn’t recognize her, at least she has his name now. If being in danger wasn’t enough, now she will have him tailing her everywhere she goes. She will have to survive the killer and the time spent in Galen’s company.

Being a fan of Mandy Baxter (Amanda Bonilla) I knew I was going to like One Night More, what I didn’t know it was how much I was going to love it.

Even though he did some things that made me rolled my eyes and he jumped to conclusions when he shouldn’t have I can say I liked Galen. He is not perfect, but he’s a dreamy hero. He is a protector in all sense of the word, not only because of his profession but also because it’s innate in him.

Harper, oh Harper. I liked her, but more than once I wanted to strangled her. She is smart, but sometimes her stubbornness got the better of her and made her do stupid things. One thing I really liked about her was that she was honest with herself and accepted when she screwed up.

Galen and Harper’s chemistry is off the charts; their first encounter was super hot and after their reencounter the consequential play around their attraction was fun and sexy as hell. Their banter was great and highly enjoyable.

One Night More has everything I look for in a contemporary romance, a sexy hero, a smart heroine, sizzling romance, suspense, humor, mystery, pop culture references, delicious grilled cheese sandwiches and much more.

One Night More is an amazing start to a very promising series. I recommend it to contemporary romance and romantic suspense fans.

Next book in the series, One Kiss More, will be Galen’s friend, Landon’s story. It’ll be released on March 3rd, 2015 and I can’t wait to get my hands on it.

I have mixed feelings about this one. In general, I liked the story and the characters. The story is of two people who meet under unusual circumstances, have one night, separate, and are reunited once again through unusual circumstances. The actual plot kept my attention until the end and I started getting frustrated. Harper is a political news reporter who thinks she pretty good at her job, but there were a few times that she was just downright ridiculous about things (view spoiler). And I have no idea how Galen kept his job by some of the decisions he made. Of course they're pretty hot together and I'm really happy with the ending. Overall I enjoyed the book for the entertainment and I'll most definitely read the next in the series.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. ( )
