I loved the title of this and that is why I decided to read it. I thought it was really well versed. I enjoyed it a lot. ( )

This is a collection of (the best) poetry from J. Patrick Lewis. There are 60 some-odd poems in this book (give or take), that are illustrated and simply titled. The title of this book is very appropriate to the content therein, as Lewis takes the most mundane of subjects (such as mosquitoes) and turns them into fun and beautiful poetry that children can relate to.

Summary: This a collection of many different poems. Some of the poems are non-fiction, some are fiction. They range in the types of poems, showing that poems can be written about anything and everything.
Personal Reaction: This was a very interesting poetry book, unlike most I have previously read. At first I was unsure of this book, but as I read it more I began to like it more and how it was unique. This book literally shows how poems can be written about anything and everything.
Classroom Extentions: This is great example to show students that poetry can be written about anything and everything. Also a great book that can be read over a long period of time, a poem once a day, or a couple of different poems a day.

This book is full of entertaining poems! I enjoyed the poems about reading the most, because they were short and rang true. I think students would especially enjoy the poems that are riddles, guessing what the riddles are hinting at. I like that nonfiction readers can connect with some of the poems too, enjoying the poems based upon real people, places, and events. Overall, this book would be great for using in order to explore rhyme, rhythm, and lyrical poetry with students. I can also picture the nonfiction poems being used as springboards for writing or integrated into social studies or science units. The illustrations are appealing too, which is always a bonus.
