This is an account of what it was like to command a destroyer during World War II. Spanning 1942 to 1945, Hill commanded HMS Ledbury during the tragedy of Arctic convoy PQ17 and played an outstanding role in Operation Pedestal. The pressures of command and the strain of years of continual fighting are conveyed here captain Hill commanded at sea from 1942 to 1945. After a background in Battleship, Minesweeper and sloops, he received command of the Hunt Class destroyer, the "Ledbury", later on he was given the "Grenville" the "U" Class Utility destroyer. after the Anzio landings Hill was sent to the "Jervis", one of the few surviving "J" class, tied for the most decorated ship of WWII in the Royal Navy. Roger Hill was a good inspiration for Naval Fiction based on destroyers in WWII. The bare narrative is exciting to review. Lt. Cmdr. Hill is one of the few truly entitled to wear a "Been There, Done That!" Tee-shirt. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
