Punch-Drunk Love was written for the Goodreads M/M Romance Group’s 2014 Love’s Landscapes event. It’s the story of geeky Oliver Reyes, and team captain Derek Vance, two members of San Francisco Elites Kickboxing Group. This is told in third person through Oliver’s eyes.

This was a cute, fluffy story about Oliver and Derek and how their relationship developed. The team traveled to Las Vegas to attend the Amateur Kickboxing Pacific Summit and after the event Oliver went to a gay club because his friends wanted to him to do a recon of fun stuff to do while in Vegas. It was costume night at the club so Oliver bought an outfit there and dressed as a sparkly unicorn which was hilarious. Oliver gets an amazing blow-job from a guy dressed as a cowboy.

After the team returns to the bay area, Derek is paying Oliver a lot more attention than he had before. I’m not going to spoil the story, but a lot of interesting things are revealed between the two.

This doesn’t have any angst except Oliver’s crushing on Derek. Mostly it’s fun with friends and how Oliver and Derek grow closer. They are a cute couple and I enjoyed how the author built to the end of the story. I also think the cover of the story is very cool. I give this 4 Stars

Oliver Reyes is a slightly nerdy kickboxer who is part of an elite team in San Francisco. Oliver is also more than slightly gay and has a crush on the team's captain, Derek Vance. Oliver is not very obvious about his crush, certain that it's unlikely Derek would reciprocate. When the team travels to Las Vegas for a competition, Oliver goes out to scope out entertainment options for a future trip with his friends, and what he finds is more than he expected.

I really liked this story. It's sweet and fluffy with a dash of racy heat thrown in--something I think is expected from a Nico Jaye story. The pacing is a bit inconsistent, with a lot of slow build and then very quick resolution that almost leaves some things feeling unresolved. Though that just increases my desire to read and know more about these characters...if they might possibly resurface somewhere in the future. ( )
