This sweet picture book shows a young boy that is very interested in art. He attends classes at the museum and then decided to honor his grandma by painting many pictures of her and then hosting his own art show to show everyone his work. ( )

After attending weekly art classes at a local museum, a boy learns that anything that’s special or important to the artist can be considered art. This gives him an interesting idea about something he thinks should be added to the museum. The museum curator likes his idea, but doesn’t agree with what he wants to do. This leads the boy to a very creative idea to honor a special member of his family. I thought Grandma in Blue with Red Hat, was a very sweet story with an unexpected ending. I love the strong connection the main character has with his Grandma. Grandma in Blue With Red Hat written by Scott Menchin and illustrated by Harry Bliss would be appealing to kids K-3. The artists/art that were featured were a nice addition in this book and would be a great part of introducing kids to some famous artists.

This book is the story of a young boy who attends an art class in a museum. In the end, he decides that his grandmother fits all the adjectives that are used to describe various art forms. Since he cannot display his grandmother in the museum, he creates a variety of pieces that display his grandmother to his audience. This opened a great discussion about who gets to decide what is art with my students. ( )

This excellent book follows a boy who takes art classes. His teacher teaches what is art at the museum. It inspires the boy to do an exhibit of art designed after his grandmother. This would be good for art class, art discussions, and read aloud. This book is multi-culturally inclusive. The illustrations are creative and wonderful by depicting actual masterpieces in the background. The text is large , and easy to read; not too many words, but still educational and engaging.
