This was a pretty fun Novella to read. It takes place between the first book Southern Comforts and the second book The Skeleton in the closet. This read doesn't center on a murder like all the other books, rather, this time Verity and Frankie are investigating a haunting at an antique shop. The story was a really quick read that took me less than an hour. While the story was fun, I believe the way it was solved seemed way too much of a coincidence. Maybe this was done to keep the length short but I can get over how everything just fell into place. ( )

A Ghostly Gift is another short story in the Verity Long Southern Ghost Hunter series from Angie Fox. Like the other short stories I've read which augment the series, it’s fun and charming and well written. It’s part of that sub-genre more fluff than actual mystery, of course, but it’s very well done and has some likable and engaging characters.

Verity is having trouble furnishing her new Victorian home in this one. She is also trying to get used to having a ghost knocking around the place. Frankie is a dead gangster trapped with her after an unfortunate mishap with his ashes. Rather than scary, he is quite endearing. The device of having him help Verity see the dead — and use her ability to make some much needed cash — works well.

Verity’s sister, Melody, wants her to help her friend Julie get rid of a ghost who has been bothering the collectibles case in her resale shop, New For You. Though Julie isn’t in a much better position than Verity and can’t offer money, a new set of kitchenware to the struggling Verity sounds just as good. It soon becomes complicated, however, when Verity and Frankie pay a visit at night, and discover the resale shop is a bar from another time. A soldier from the war worried about the great love he left behind, and whom he needs to find before she passes, is at the heart of this short and surprisingly warm story.

A tradition featuring bottle caps and a girl who seems to have dropped off the map in ’42, when the young soldier died, turn this into a warm and sentimental short story, respectful of the sacrifice made by so many in WWII. The author obviously appreciates these things and it comes across, giving this fun fluff also a bit of warmth and tenderness. A light and nice read between bigger and more substantive books that makes me want to begin reading the series when I’m in the mood for something lighter. ( )

A short and sweet read with a happy ending that will leave the reader with a smile on their face. ( )

It was a cute little romantic story but I was hoping for some more suspense and mystery as there was in the first book.

As with the first book, I enjoy all the time eras the ghost come from and this one does not disappoint but it was definitely just a mini-filler type story. The character of Frankie continues to grow on me and I am really liking his character.

I haven't really decided about Verity yet because even though she finds her inner courage sometimes I'm like wondering why she is so freaked out by the ghost stuff still. ( )
