Um, I think I just didn't really get this one. And, the narration kinda made no sense? I mean, it started off as Erik writing to his guardian angel/imaginary friend/hallucination/whatever, but then we get chapters told from Thorn's POV and maybe they're two aspects of the same person, but that doesn't really track, either. Someone younger and hipper than I needs to read this and explain it to me, because I'm still not sure what happened or if this was two characters or two-in-one and...

Yeah. I'm pretty sure it's brilliant and I'm just too pedestrian to see it. ( )

One will either love this book or hate this book. Two boys, both unstable in their own ways, tell a story that slowly comes together. ( )

Fell of Dark is not an easy book to rate. It's more sophisticated than the average YA novel nowadays, and I have to wonder how many teens would actually stick with its stream-of-consciousness POVs through till the end. Technically, nothing really happens until the last two pages and then there's the ending that might cause whiplash; it's there and over with so quickly. Yeah, this one's definitely not for the mainstreamers. I'm curious about what Downes will write next, though.
